Cumby Baseball Dropped Non-District Game To Alba-Golden
The Cumby’ baseball team dropped a non-district game to Alba-Golden 12-4 last Friday at home.
Cumby scored a run in the bottom of the second inning to cut the Alba-Golden lead to 3-1. Alba-Golden scored the next nine runs to take a 12-1 lead. The Trojans rallied with 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 12-4 game.
Cole Sprague had a good day with the bat for the Trojans with 3 hits in 4 at bats with a run scored and an RBI. Ethan Coble hit a double. Cumby had 8 hits.
Ethan Coble got the pitching loss allowing only 3 earned runs and three hits.

Soccer Game Day
The Wildcats and Lady Cats’ soccer teams play Hallsville in important district matches on this Tuesday game day.
The Wildcats are playing for their playoff future. They need a win for a chance to get in. Hallsville, the Wildcats and Greenville are all battling for the fourth and final playoff spot. Facing a similar situation last year, the Wildcats won to get into the playoffs. They hope to pull that off again. There will be a JV contest at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow at around 7 p.m.
Meanwhile the Lady Cats’ soccer team will be playing Hallsville at home on Senior Night at the SSHS Track Complex. The Lady Cats are already in the playoffs but they can still finish second or third depending how games turn out on this Tuesday game day. There will be a JV contest at 5:30 p.m. with varsity to follow at around 7:15 p.m. We will bring you Lady Cats’ soccer against Hallsville live on KSST Radio at around 7:15 p.m. We will also videotape the game for replay at a later date on Channel 18 TV on Suddenlink Cable.

The Wildcats’ baseball team and the Lady Cats’ softball team have important district games on this Tuesday game day.
The Wildcats’ baseball team is actually opening district play at Pine Tree. The Wildcats have prepared for district play with three tournaments so far this season. They come with a 6-5-1 record. The Wildcats’ JV Royal Team will play at Pine Tree at 4 p.m. with the varsity of follow at around 7 p.m. The Wildcats JV Gold Team will be hosting Pine Tree at Eagle Stadium at 6 p.m.
The Lady Cats’ softball team will be continuing district play Tuesday night at Pine Tree. The Lady Cats have started out 2-0 in district play so far with a road win at Greenville and a big home win against Hallsville. The Lady Cats are 15-4 for the season. There will be a JV contest at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity game to follow at around 6 p.m. at Pine Tree.
Ice Cream Truck Stuck Slows I-30 Traffic
Tuesday morning a semi-truck transporting ice cream became stuck in the median of I-30 near Cumby creating a traffic delay. According to Hopkins County Dispatch office, the roadway has been cleared and traffic is resuming regular flow and speed.
Stop for Defective Light Finds Methamphetamine
A defective tail light drew the attention of the Hopkins County Deputy around 10:31 p.m. Monday night. Sara Nicole Pitchford-Gaston, 27, of Hugo, Oklahoma was traveling north on State Highway 19 when stopped.
The deputy noted several indicators of possible drug use. A search revealed small plastic baggies containing a clear crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine inside several cigarette boxes.
Pitchford-Gaston is in Hopkins County jail charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, less than 1-gram and is being held on $10,000 bond.
California Runaways Apprehended in Sulphur Springs
Two Yuba County California 17-year olds, Kayleb and Kyle Mayo, were apprehended where they were staying in the 1400 Block of Industrial Drive. The pair was reported missing from Marysville, California and was being sought by Yuba County authorities.

They are being held in Hopkins County jail awaiting California transport back to Marysville, a city of 12,000 located north of Sacramento.

Yantis Couple Arrested; CPS Removes Child at Birth
The Special Crimes Unit assisted Child Protective Services in the Monday arrest of Destiny Michelle Parker, 25, and John Ocie Peck, 39, both of Yantis. The pair was arrested following the birth of a child that tested positive for methamphetamine. The child was removed by CPS at birth for the safety of the child.
The Special Crimes Unit and CPS had presented evidence to the District Attorney’s office, which granted felony warrants. Both Parker and Peck signed acknowledgements stating they did in fact use meth.
They are in Hopkins County Jail charged with Injury Child with Intent and are being held on a $30,000 bond each.
Lady Trojans Fall to Honey Grove
The Lady Trojans of Cumby fell to Honey Grove tonight to fall 2-2 in district play. Carly Talley was the losing pitcher with 5 walks and 3 strikeouts. Paige Seely came in relief and issued 3 walks.
Alyssa Morgan went 1-2 with an infield single while Laura Rector went 1-1 with a walk and an infield single. Sydney Spillers went 2-2 with 2 singles.
The Lady Trojans held Honey Grove to only five runs through the third inning, but the Lady Warriors’ bats came alive in the fourth and ended the game with a score of 15-0.

Lindsey Sentenced to 5 Years for Burglary of a Habitation (Assault)
In Eighth Judicial District Court Monday, Nakia Dean Lindsey pleaded guilty to Burglary of a Habitation (Assault) and was sentenced to 5 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He is also scheduled to plead guilty to a misdemeanor assault family violence case in County Court later this week.
The plea to Burglary of a Habitation (assault) was made rather than a plea to the original charge of Burglary of a Habitation (intent to commit murder). Cumby Police identified Lindsey, 35, of Cumby as he was driving on West Main Street in Cumby. Officer Ray Embro knew a warrant for Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Murder had been issued for Lindsey. Investigator Corley Weatherford of the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office filed for the warrant following his investigation of an incident that occurred when Lindsey assaulted a family member.
Should Lindsey ever commit a felony in the future he faces a penalty of 25-years to life.
Frost Advisory for Hopkins County Area Tuesday 4 AM to 10 AM
The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for parts of North and Central Texas along and east of a line from Breckenridge to Killeen and along and northwest of a Temple to Athens line. Hopkins County is included in the advisory.
The frost advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday. Overnight temperatures will fall into the 30’s. Frost may damage or even kill sensitive vegetation if left uncovered.
