Team Tennis Lost to Princeton Tuesday
The Wildcats’ team tennis squad lost their last match before district play begins next Tuesday. The Wildcats fell 17-3 at Princeton Tuesday afternoon.
Wildcats Tennis Coach Tony Martinez says several of his players lost matches after having leads. He says their stamina was the problem on a warm day. Coach Martinez says the score was not indicative of how the Wildcats played. Alex Benitez, in boys #1 singles, lost in a third set tiebreaker, 14-12. Coach Martinez praises the play of Blaine Flemens. Flemens returned to the court after being away for three months due to injury. After the long absence, Flemens ran out of gas and lost in a tiebreaker according to Coach Martinez. The Wildcats got points from a trio of sophomore boys. Aaron Lucas and Waylon Matlock won singles matches and Matlock teamed with Logan Shumacker to win a boys doubles match.
The Wildcats are now 1-5 for the season. They will open district play next Tuesday at the Wildcat Tennis Complex against Hallsville.
Wanted: Local Artists, Collectors and Vendors for Brick Street Vintage Market

Judy Heilman, owner of Gourmet Kitchen and Company, 213 Main St and Downtown Business Alliance President
The first-ever Brick Street Vintage Market was an idea of downtown business owner Judy Heilman to bring shoppers to the Sulphur Springs downtown business and dining district. As 2017 President of the Downtown Business Alliance, Judy brought it up at a meeting earlier this year and support was immediately mobilized. Now, many of the shops on Main and Connally Streets and even beyond downtown are helping spread the word on their windows and social media sources, inviting shoppers to the vintage market on Saturday Saturday September 16. Locals and visitors will be amazed at the array of vintage vendors and artisans plus all the wineries, galleries, antiques, boutiques, gourmet and specialty shops and restaurants in a half-block walking area of the square. The market will get an early start at 8 am, and will remain open until 6 pm. The first 100 shoppers get a Brick Street Vintage Market shopping bag filled with discounts and goodies. If you would like to be a vendor at the juried event, contact any member of the DBA or Judy at Gourmet Kitchen and Company, 213 Main Street, for an application form. Cost is $25 for a booth space. Shopping should be brisk because of the annual Quilt Show and other attractions going on downtown that weekend. Already, about three dozen vendors have signed up, and a limited number of spaces remain. Phone 903-885-9700 for details.

Bookworm Box Initiates Texas Hurricane Relief By Matching Donations
The Bookworm Box in downtown Sulphur Spring is organizing a relief fund for Texas victims of Hurricane Harvey. An initial goal of $10,000 was set on Monday August 28, and in 24 hours, a flood of support caused that goal to be met. It was then matched by the Bookworm Box, and $20,000 in funds has already been dispatched. A second goal of $10,000 has now been set. Anyone who wishes to donate to the fund can do so by going to The Bookworm Box Facebook page and follow the link to make your donation. Organizers of this relief fund selected the Louisiana Cajun Navy as the organization to direct utilization of the funds. The Louisiana Cajun Navy was first formed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, but gained national attention during Louisiana’s Great Flood of 2016. It is made up of individuals who own boats and are willing to help in a time of need. Members of the Cajun Navy arrived in Texas over the past weekend in a caravan of pickups and boat trailers. The group is about a thousand members strong, and includes boaters and volunteers from neighboring states as well. Not a typical Navy, these are hard working men and women who assist in rescue efforts by using their own fishing boats, hunting boats, airboats, canoes and kayaks.
