Four Wildcats Make Finals at Regional Track Meet But Do Not Advance
Wildcats Track Coach Matt Young said it is an honor just to make it to the Regional Track Meet. He was very proud of the four Wildcats he took to Mavericks Stadium at UT Arlington last Friday and Saturday (April 27-28).
Senior Dedric Godbolt had a good day at high jump getting a personal best effort. Coach Young said he came in seeded seventh of eighth out of 16 jumpers. Godbolt cleared 6-foot on his third attempt and 6-foot-2 on his third attempt. Godbolt also clear 6-foot-4 and found out that he was among only four athletes left. All jumpers also cleared 6-foot-5. Goldbolt and another jumper went out at 6-foot-6. Godbolt finished fourth due to having more misses than the other jumper, who finished third.
Sophomore Kylan Wade competed in the 110-meter hurdles and made the finals. He entered the finals with the eighth best time and finished eighth. Landry Tyson ran in the 300-meter hurdles. He did not made the finals.
Eli Sellers competed in the 800-meter run, which was a final event. Coach Young said Sellers needed to ran faster than he had before to get near the top but was unable to do so. Coach Young said going to the Regional Track Meet is great experience. He said all who went to regional would be coming back next year except for the senior Godbolt.

Young Focuses on Offensive Pace During Wildcat Spring Football
Wildcats Offensive Coordinator Matt Young wants to return the Wildcats to an offensive pace similar to what former Wildcats Offensive Coordinator Jeff Riordan referred to as the NASCAR Offense. The NASCAR offense was a big part of the Wildcats State Title run in 2008. The increase in pace is one of the goals for Coach Young and it will be an emphasis during spring workouts.
However Coach Young said the ultimate goal for the offense this spring will be developing a physicality in the offense line. Wildcats Offensive Line Coach Jeremy Offutt is in charge of that project. Spring practice got underway Monday with some work during the school day athletic period and with a session in pads after school in the Multipurpose Building. Plans call for three weeks of work Monday through Friday culminating with a Spring Game on Friday, May 18.

Abron Proud of Regional Qualifiers; Taylor Qualifies for State
Lady Cats Track Coach Triston Abron talked about long jumper Imani Taylor qualifying for the State Track Meet at the Regional Meet on Friday. Coach Abron said Taylor was the first Lady Cat to compete at 9 a.m. Friday. There were 16 long jumpers and Taylor was in the second flight. Coach Abron knew going in that a Mansfield Lake Ridge jumper was a prohibitive favorite to win the event. He said he encouraged Taylor to go after second place. Coach Abron said Taylor was in first place after her preliminary jumps. On her fourth jump and he first in the finals Taylor recorded her best jump ever, 18-feet 8 and a quarter inches. All of a sudden Taylor was in second place with most of the field trying to top her. They never did. Coach Abron said when meet officials announced Taylor’s jump, Taylor and her Coach Kurt McCain celebrated. Coach Abron noted that Taylor, a senior, was making her fourth trip to the regional meet and never in the past had she advanced until Friday. The State Track Meet will be at UT Austin May 11-12.
Coach Abron was proud of all of his regional qualifiers. He said they all made it into finals. The Lady Cats 4 X 100-meter relay team finished fifth against a strong field. The team is made up of Taylor, Sadavia Porter, N’sya Dugan and Abbi Baier. Baier finished sixth in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Porter made the finals in the 100-meter dash but not in the 200-meter dash. In the 100-meter final, Coach Abron said Porter exploded out of the blocks and led the race for about the first 80-meters. Three competitors passed her right at the end. Still Coach Abron said he was impressed by the way Porter ran the race.
