Burgers and Fries Make Donation to Meal a Day

Burgers and Fries made a donation of $ 1,575.00 to the Meal A Day Program. People in the Community put Tips and Donations in a jar while they eat or pick up their burgers. When the jar is full Burgers and Fries donate the money to the Meal A Day Program.
Wind Advisory From 3 PM Thursday, December 13 to Noon Friday, December 14, 2018

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect from 3 PM Thursday to noon Friday.
TIMING…3 PM Thursday to Noon Friday, with the highest winds expected Thursday evening into early Friday morning.
WINDS…Northerly winds will increase to around 25-35 mph, with several gusts upwards of 40 to 45 mph. An isolated gust as high as 50 mph is possible.
IMPACTS…Loose outdoor objects, such as decorations, will likely be blown about in the wind. Driving will become difficult on east-west oriented roads, especially for those in high- profile vehicles. A few falling tree branches will pose a hazard to those outside. Additionally, isolated power outages will be possible.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Strong winds with gusts to 50 mph are forecast to occur. These winds will make driving difficult for all vehicles. Boaters should stay off area lakes as waters will become very rough. Weak trees may be blown over and some minor structural damage is also possible. Residents should take action to ensure all light weight outdoor objects are secured.
Saltillo Lions Lose and Lady Lions Win Against Bland
The Saltillo Lions and Lady Lions faced Bland Tuesday (December 11). The Lions lost but the Lady Lions won. Bland topped the Lions, 52-35. Bland outscored the Lions in every quarter. For the Lions, Chris Boekhorst had a team high 15 points. Ben Moore scored 9 points. Matthew Gurley added 8 points. Edi Olayo had 3 points. The Lions were a solid 11 of 15 from the foul line. The Lions season record is now 9-6.

Saltillo Coach Bill Giles said the Saltillo Lady Lions did a good job defensively in their 37-22 win over Bland on the road. The Lady Lions led 13-5 after one quarter and 27-13 at the half. In a defensive minded third quarter, the Lady Lions outscored Bland 5-2 to take a 32-15 lead after three quarters. Bland outscored the Lady Lions 7-5 in the fourth quarter but the Lady Lions still got the 15 point win. For the Lady Lions, Anna Reeder scored 12 points. Jocelyn Ochoa had 8 points. Chandler Bain and Maddy Smith had 5 points each. Lorena Castro scored 3 points. Paisley Kastner and Kristina Wade had 2 points apiece. The Lady Lions improved their season record to 10-8. The Lions and Lady Lions play next on Homecoming against North Hopkins on Friday. The Lady Lions play at 6 p.m. and the Lions at 7:30 p.m.

Minick Sentenced to 30 Years for Murder of Husband
Cassandra Joyce Minick, pled guilty to Murder Wednesday morning.She was sentenced to 30 years in prison by Eighth Judicial District Judge Eddie Northcutt. Minick was charged with the murder of her husband with a rifle in February of this year.

At the time of her arrest Minick, 30, called the Sheriff’sDepartment in the early morning hours stating she had found her husband shot intheir residence after she heard a gunshot. Deputies arrived on scene, and Sgt.Richard Greer took charge of the scene. At the scene they found Kenny Minick unresponsive. Greer said the story that Ms. Minick gave him varied each time she told it. Greer contacted Investigator Charles Humphries, who also found discrepancies in her story. He called Chief Investigator Corley Weatherford and Texas Ranger John Vance. Following investigation at the scene, she was arrested and charged with murder.
Three children in the home were taken by Child Protective Services and placed in care.
Man Wanted on Warrants Arrested Locally

When Hopkins County Sheriff’s deputies located Robby Lynn Simpkins, 60 of Greenville, wanted on three outstanding warrants, he was a resident at Royal Inn in Sulphur Springs. Although not in his room when deputies arrived, they waited. When he did arrive, Simpkins had 1.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine in his possession.
Simpkins was wanted on Parole Violation by the Austin Parole Board, Burglary of a Habitation in Franklin County, and Possession of a Dangerous Drug in Hunt County. He is in Hopkins County Jail held on those warrants and is charged with possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, less than 1-gram but more than 4-grams.
Woman Arrested for Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon
Sulphur Springs Police were called to an address on Spence Street where Randall Roberts told him that Melanie Dawn Skeen, 38, had “…hit him in the head with a hammer…” according to the report.

The responding officer was told that the incident had cause pain and saw a visible injury. The injury, a red knot forming on the left side of Reynolds, caused the officer to believe the incident warranted the arrest of Skeen for Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon Family Member.
Skeen is in Hopkins County Jail held on a $25,000 bond.

Blue Santa/Empty Stocking Toy Distribution is Saturday, December 15th
Blue Santa Toy Drive and CANHelp Empty Stocking will distribute toys Saturday December 15, 2018. Distribution will take place at First United Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs at 1 pm. As of Wednesday, December 12th, 318 families and761 children will be served.
According to CANHelp, Officer Gaddis is will serve as security at the front of line. CANHelp expresses gratitude those who have been willing to give of themselves for the good of others in planning and preparing for the event.

Wildcats Continue Playing Top Ranked 6-A Schools; Lose to Guyer Tuesday
The Wildcats’ basketball team continues to swim with the sharks and sometimes they can expect to get bit. Tuesday night (December 11) the Wildcats took on perhaps the biggest great white shark in the state, Denton Guyer, the #1 ranked team in Class 6A. Guyer, with players committed to Oklahoma and Michigan, performed like a top seed playing at home and defeated the Wildcats, 77-60.

The Wildcats hung with Guyer for a quarter and trailed only 20-16. Guyer began to pull away in the second quarter and led at the half, 43-30. The Wildcats continued to battle in the third quarter and outscored Guyer 19-17 to pull within 11 at 60-49 after three quarters. Guyer outscored the Wildcats in the fourth quarter 17-11 to take the 77-60 win.
Guyer improved their season record to 11-2. The Wildcats are now 10-5 for the season.
The Wildcats foray into shark infested waters continues Friday at 7:30 p.m. as the Wildcats play at Jesuit of Dallas. Jesuit lost their first game of the season Tuesday night losing to Mansfield Timberview, 68-66 in overtime. Timberview is ranked #1 in Class 5A. Jesuit, ranked #6 in Class 6A, now has a season record of 12-1.
