NETSA Receives Grant From TCA
The Northeast Texas Association (NETSA) under the leadership of the Sulphur Springs Symphony League has been approved to receive one the 256 Art Respond Project grants through the Texas Commission of the Arts (TCA). These grants fund arts-based projects that address on the priority areas of economic development, education, health and human services, natural resources and agriculture, or public safety and criminal justice. The Mothers Against Drunk Driving Association received a donation of $1,500 from Alliance Bank today April 9, 2015. The donation will be used for MADD’s annual walk coming up in the fall. The walk is part of a fundraiser, of which Alliance Bank is a sponsor. The MADD walk will be September 26, 2015. The event will start with entertainment at 5:30 p.m. and the walk will begin at 7:00 p.m. The theme for walk is “Glow Walk”, where participants will wear glow sticks, hoops, strings, lights and other such items.

The concert theme this year will be jukebox oldies, featuring hit songs from the 50’s through to the 70’s. The concert will have over 100 performers dressed up in costumes from the respective time periods of the concert’s theme. Sulphur Springs Mayor Freddie Taylor was honored on National Mayor’s Day at an event at the Senior Citizens Civic Center that April 7, 2015. Taylor, who moved to Sulphur Springs from Pennsylvania in 2000, became a member of the city council in 2004 and served his first term as mayor soon after. The Sulphur Springs Country Club hosted the Lights of Life Celebration reception and check presentation on Tuesday, March 24. The check contains some of the funds raised from the Lights of Life Campaign & Gala. Various people were recognized for their support of the campaign, helping raise over $285,000 which broke all previous records. The check will give $158,000 to the Memorial Hospital CEO/Michael McAndrew and the hospital Board of Directors.
