Black Oak’s Famous Hospitality on Saturday October 24, 2015

About 200 diners enjoyed fried catfish and delicious sides and desserts along with Black Oak’s famous hospitality on Saturday October 24. The event was a fundraiser for a building project. Due to growth, the congregation needs more Sunday School rooms and Fellowship space. Pastor Charlie Belliew was honored by Raynell Frost for his role in growing the congregation. Volunteers cooked the fish which was caught by church members and the dessert table was laden with homemade delicacies.

The forecast for October 23 is for a 100% chance of rain, but the Stew Contest is still scheduled. A flash flood watch is in effect for the region for late Thursday night through late Saturday night.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Saddle Up for St. Jude Trail Ride on the morning ofNovember 14 at Como, Texas. Breakfast and coffee will await those who get there early when the gates open at 7am and the wagons and horses begin to arrive. The annual World Champion Hopkins County Stew Contest is coming up Saturday in Buford Park. The context will feature 161 pots of stew. Chamber of Commerce Executive Meredith Caddell is hoping for the best weather-wise. Ms. Caddell said excitement is building as stew-cooks are preparing for the event. NETBIO Ribeye Roundup Friday provided competition for various levels of ribeye cooking. Twenty-two teams competed in the Amateur Division: Hopkins County Farm Bureau placed first, Legacy Ag Credit placed second, Wood County Farm Bureau was third, Titus County Farm Bureau came in at forth, and fifth place Alliance Bank. Price Orwosky, a third-generation businessman in Sulphur Springs, is 2015 Campaign Chairman for the Hopkins County United Way drive. He says it’s satisfying to see how the community responds with donations through payroll deduction and charitable gifts.  And it’s gratifying to see how individuals and families benefit from allocations made by United Way to local charities and services. October’s Reilly Springs Jamboree (Sat. Oct. 17) will feature the music of Alina Tatum Sanders as well as a special tribute to Hopkins County Sheriff Butch Adams who is retiring.
