Saturday, August 8th from 6pm- 10:30pm, there is a Fundraiser Concert at Celebration Plaza for Cystic Fibrosis. Seth Welborn is putting together this entire event. This event will coincide with the Celebration Market. The purpose of this event is to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and to also help raise awareness of the disease. Also Brashear Baptist Church will have a box at their Family Life Building for collections in Brashear. Kay Handlin is going into her fourth year as Superintendent in the Como-Pickton CISD. The school district is observing it’s 50th year anniversary as a consolidated system of Como and Pickton schools. Kay’s career in education began in Hughes Springs, Texas, and she held administrative positions in Malakoff and Marshall before taking this post in Hopkins County. First day of school for students for the 2015/2016 term is August 24th. The Dinner Bell program at First United Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs continues to provide meals for those in need on Wednesday during the lunch hour. A cookbook featuring recipes used for The Dinner Bell has been put together. An event has also been planned for next Friday, July 31 at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall where you can sample food cooked using recipes from the cookbook.
