“Fruit of the Spirit” Awards Banquet Will Feature Cowboys Hall of Fame Everson Walls
Based on a sincere desire to honor God’s work in the community, the Fruit of the Spirit Awards was created in 2016 by C.J. Duffey, founder and pastor of Colorblind Ministries. This year’s third-annual event returns to the Sulphur Springs High School Cafeteria and will feature a banquet-style meal, awards ceremony and an address by special guest speaker Everson Walls, former Dallas Cowboys Superbowl Champion and Hall of Famer. Walls will also conduct an autograph session for his book “A Gift for Ron: Friendship and Sacrifice On and Off the Gridiron”. The event is Saturday September 15, 2018 at 3pm. Tickets are $25 each.
In addition to his church ministry, Pastor Duffey also serves as Chaplain for Legacy Hospice in Sulphur Springs. His deep involvement in the community makes him aware of the numerous ways that individuals are serving on the basis of love, and that inspired him to find a way to honor God by recognizing his servants. This year’s Fruit of the Spirit Award will go to nine local individuals. The selection of the guest speaker is also a story of service and sacrifice by an individual. Everson Walls donated a kidney to his friend and former teammate Ron Springs, and although Springs passed away from the ravages of diabetes, Walls continues to support the benefits of organ donation today through his book and public appearances.
Tickets to the banquet are $25 each, available at SSHS, Colorblind Mininstries at 210 Black Oak Road in Como, Good News Christian Bookstore inside the VF Outlet, and Legacy Hospice at 301 Gilmer Street in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Seating is limimted to 400.

Mental Health and Wellness Seminar on September 8 at Arbala Road Church of Christ
Pastoring Minister and congregation invites everyone to Arbala Road Church of Christ on the weekend of September 8 and 9, 2018 for special events benefiting individuals and families.
On the evening of Saturday September 8 at 6pm, a Health and Wellness Seminar will be presented by counselor Israel Lewis. Statistics show that 60 million Americans have mental illness issues within any given year, and no matter the cause, these issues can result in disturbance, unrest and breakdown in the family structure. The Arbala Road Church of Christ family is hosting this event in the hope that many will attend and find resources and possible solutions to problems that we individually face. The seminar is designed to help anyone to cement a closer relationship with God, to be resourceful in seeking help that you need and to recognize dependence on other persons whom we can trust for support and assistance. The seminar is open to the public and is free of charge.
The following day, Sunday September 9, the annual Fall Fellowship services will begin during the morning with guest minister Shane Mushonga of Faith Pointe Church of Christ. The theme of the day is “This World Needs a Revival”. Lunch will be served at noon followed by afternoon services. The public is invited to make a day of it and be blessed by the speaker and the hospitality of the congregation.
Arbala Road Church of Christ is located at 806 CR 1175 in southern Hopkins County. DIRECTIONS: take League Street south toward FM 2297. Continue south of 2297 for 5 miles. Turn right onto CR 1175 and look for the first church building on the left.

12-Week Family Bible Study Series to Begin at Brashear Baptist Church
Taking the Brashear exit south from Interstate 30 in Hopkins County, you will see the Brashear Baptist Church on both sides of CR 3389, just a stone’s throw from the Post Office. The original part of the church and sanctuary was expanded in recent years to accommodate growth, with a new family life center, kitchen, gym and generous parking across the street. The church now serves a growing congregation pastored by David Burns, and a healthy Wednesday night ministry of about 100 youth and Awana students, directed by Youth minister Dustin Cowden. Pastor Burns recently introduced Retired US Air Force Chaplain Mark Crumpton as Sunday School Discipleship Director. Originally from the Cumby/Greenville area, Mark has returned “home” bringing experiences from his service around the world and in personal ministries. Mark will begin a Family Bible Study Series next month.
With the theme of “Experiencing God”, the Family Bible Study Series is for families and individuals of all ages. It will be an opportunity for them to spend time together in the Word of God, with worship, study and praise during the 12-week series through Fall 2018. After the holidays, a new study will begin for the New Year called “Experiencing the Cross”, followed by a third series leading into the Easter season called “Experiencing the Resurrection”. These studies will be in addition to Sunday morning Worship and Sunday School, and Wednesday night prayer, Youth services and Awana studies.
After graduation from Greenville High School, Mark joined the Air Force. During his 25-year military career as a Chaplain, he served in deployments to Iraq and assignments in Turkey, Hungary, Germany, Guam, Alaska and numerous state-side assignments. His wife Debra passed away in 2011. He is father to three children.

Everyone is Invited to Revival at Calvary Baptist Church August 19-22
Pastor Garry Jordan and the congregation of Calvary Baptist Church at 130 Lee Street in Sulphur Springs, Texas is inviting everyone to attend a series of Revival services beginning Sunday August 19, 2018. Larry Jordan will serve as Evangelist for the eight services. During this Revival, the Jordan brothers are encouraging former members to revisit Calvary Baptist Church. In fact, past members are especially invited for Monday’s 7 pm service which includes an Ice Cream Fellowship after the service. The full schedule of Revival services is: Sunday August 19 at 11 am and 7 pm, Monday August 20 at 12 noon and 7 pm, Tuesday August 21 at 12 noon and 7 pm, and Wednesday August 22 at 12 noon and 7 pm. Each of the one-hour noon services will include a free lunch.

Garry Jordan became Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in March 2018, and it marked a welcome return for him. Gary was baptized at Calvary, then later had the opportunity to serve as Assistant Pastor and Youth Minister from 1978 until the mid-80’s. Garry graduated from Sulphur Springs High School and went to college to pursue a Business degree, planning to take over his dad’s business, Southern Auto Supply in Sulphur Springs. “However, the Lord had other plans for me” quipped Garry. He has served in various church leadership roles in the Hopkins and Franklin County areas for over 30 years, and he and his wife Gena are owners of Good News Christian Bookstore inside the VF Outlet in Sulphur Springs.
Also a former Calvary Baptist Church pastor, Larry Jordan is now a full-time Revival Minister who serves at churches in a wide region across NE Texas as well as with a radio ministry. After graduating Sulphur Springs High School, Larry was attending Dallas Baptist University on a full track scholarship and planning a career as a track and football coach. “That’s when the Lord got ahold of me and worked a miracle. I remember kneeling in the dorm room on October 30, 1969 and giving my life over to God and the work he would have me do. That was 49 years ago” recalled Larry. According to him, many churches today have stopped holding traditional revivals. However, he believes these are vital for the refreshment and general well-being of church members. Rather than evangelizing messages, Revival should offer a return to the fundamentals of faith and the basics of Christian life, and a time to rediscover joy.
Pastor Garry Jordan encourages everyone to attend the Revival services this week as well as worship on a weekly basis. Regular services are held on Sundays at 11 am and 6 pm, and Wednesday Prayer meetings at 6:30 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 130 Lee Street. You can call the church office with any questions at 903-885-6836.

Observing 150 Years at Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church
Pastor H.B. Nash Sr. and Church Mother Mary Ross shared some of the plans for the Sesquicentennial Celebration at Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church during the KSST Good Morning Show. Celebration activities and special services will be held on Saturday August 18 and Sunday August 19, 2018, and the community is invited to share their joy.

The history of Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church reveals that the church was established in 1868 the North Caney Community as Old Tarrant Church. In 1897 a new church building was erected and renamed Morning Chapel with relocation to Sulphur Springs at the corner of Fuller and Front Street, facing Front Street. Following a fire in the 1970’s and new construction, the church now faces the other street, at 208 Fuller Street.
The Sesquicentennial Celebration Committee Chairman is Sister Lillian Fralin. Chairman of the Finance Committee is deacon Lewis Charles Hawkins. They and many other committee members have worked tirelessly during 2018 to make the celebration memorable for the many will travel to attend this Homecoming. There will be a Saturday picnic with fun, food and fellowship. On Sunday at 11am, there will be Worship services and a message by Reverend Dennis Daniels of First Baptist Church in Houston, who is a native of Sulphur Springs and Morning Chapel. At noon there will be a luncheon, and then at 3pm, a special service for the community led by Reverend Eddie L. Jenkins of Good Street Baptist Church of Dallas, who is a grandson of church member Jasper Nash. Everyone is invited to attend. Expect to be be met with warm welcomes, hearty handshakes, exuberant music and heartfelt messages at all services of Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Church Mother Mary Ross joined the church in 1944 when their family of 18 moved to town from East Caney. She was raised in the church and attended BTU, or Baptist Training Union, and the youth of that organization received excellent mentorship and training that would guide many into Christian adulthood. In recent years, she succeeded Clara Bridges as Church Mother.
H.B. Nash was born in Sulphur Springs and raised in Morning Chapel Baptist Church. During high school, he was a member of KSST Radio Workshop which led to career opportunities for him in the Metroplex. He returned to Sulphur Springs and succeeded the late H.B. Montgomery as Pastor at Morning Chapel in 1995.

Dinner Bell ‘Belle’ Turns 80
Stand out the way, here comes Judy Gilreath. Want to know where something is in the FUMC kitchen, Judy knows. Want a tour of the fancy french slicing machine, Judy is ready.

Dinner Bell is a community meal program ran from the FUMC in Sulphur Springs. Each weekly meal is powered by volunteers from all walks of life and denominations.
Behind… in front and in between this group is Judy Gilreath. At 80 years old Judy has found a calling, serving others. Mrs. Gilreath says, “I don’t feel 80, but my meniscus does.” She recently had some work done on that knee, and carefully timed it to coincide with a yearly Dinner Bell break. Dinner Bell serves on Wednesday morning year around, except over the Christmas New Years break.
If your group would like to sponsor a Dinner Bell meal, call 903.885.2185
Judy also knows the names of most if not all the folks who come to dine. She also keeps a running total of meals served as the line moves along. Congestion and mishaps are rare, and it’s usually a men’s group who is responsible. Groups sign up each week to sponsor the meal, serve the food, and be recognized. Frequently though, the meal sponsors wish to remain anonymous.
