Time Capsule Will Open Monday
For a while it appeared the unearthing of a 25-year old time capsule on Monday would have to be cancelled. The capsule, buried 25 years ago on the 75th anniversary of the Extension Service and scheduled to be opened this year on the 100th anniversary, proved hard to find. Trax Service Update
Some people were concerned when they had trouble calling for TRAX bus service beginning Thursday. The service continues to operate as it has but it is under new ownership and consequently has a new phone number. The new number is 903 691-5837. Alliance Bank Independence Celebration Fundraiser
Alliance Bank CEO Tom Sellers says there will be something new at Saturday’s Independence Concert and Fireworks event. Alliance Bank will be selling fans for $1 to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Sellers says the bank will match the funds raised from the fan sale. Hopkins County Unemployment Rate Lowest In Region

Two Locals Arrested, More Arrests to Come
Two Hopkins County men have been charged with possessing child pornography. Another arrest or two are possible pending a forensic download of a computer in Tyler. The cases are not believed to be connected. Pat Higginbotham is a volunteer and a spokesperson for Terrific Tuesdays, the weekly program at First United Methodist Church, which offers activities for people with Alzheimer’s or dementia as well several hours off for caregivers. There is a new barricade up downtown but Sulphur Springs City Manager Marc Maxwell says this one is for a minor problem. Some stucco is falling off of a sidewall of an old fabrics building on Main Street across the street from Muddy Jakes. CASA Officials Appreciative
Court Appointed Special Advocates or CASA had a good day in Hopkins County Commissioners Court Monday morning. Annually the county applies to the State Comptrollers Office for excess money from electric co-ops that operate in the county, Farmers Electric and Wood County Electric. Usually the funds amount to about $1,000 but this year the amount was far greater, over $4,500. The county must use the funds to support neglected and abused...
