Tom Sellers Named Texas Tech Alumni Association President
Tom Sellers was recently named President of the National Board of the Texas Tech Alumni Association. Sellers said he was honored and humbled. Sellers was elected to the 30-member board six years ago. Jail Project Under Budget, Sales Tax Bill Moves Forward
Hopkins County Judge Robert Newsom says a bill is ready to be filed in Austin to allow the county to fund its’ $16-million jail project with an increase in local sales tax. State Senator Bob Hall will present the bill in the Senate and then State Representative Dan Flynn will do so in the House. Judge Newsom says the project is now only 11 days behind schedule despite 21 bad weather days and should still be finished in October....

Work Begins Feb. 23 on US 69 in Rains County
PARIS – Motorists who frequently travel on US 69 in Rains County near Emory, Texas, should be on the alert for road construction beginning Feb. 23. That is the date for contractor DL Lennon to begin rehabilitating a portion of that roadway. Sulphur Springs City Pool Will Soon be Demolished
In a short period of time, the old city of Sulphur Springs swimming pool will be no more. Already the slide is gone. City Manager Marc Maxwell says the fence will be coming down soon so equipment can move in to demolish the pool. Steve and Carrie Nuckolls purchased the store from Holly and Brad Massey about a year ago. They started on an upgrade path which has resulted in both store fronts being replaced. After being absent from the Sulphur Springs business scene for a few years the Potato House has reopened at 204 Connally. Sherry Cotten is the new owner manager. Her father John owned the original Potato House when it opened downtown on Connally and later was moved to a location on Gilmer. John is now retired.
