Funeral services for Dwight Cecil Smith, age 74, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 27, 2023 at West Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Kirk Reams officiating. Interment will follow at Brigham Cemetery with Drew Smith, Chantry Rayl, Brent Shut, Robert Smith, Gus Ransom and Jackie Pool serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Walker Lackey and Justin Conaster. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Dwight passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Sunny Springs Nursing Home. He was born on October 13, 1949 in Alamogordo, New Mexico, the son of Dwight Lloyd Smith and Evelyn Margaret Cheek Smith. He married Barbara Carol Hawkins on June 1, 1968 in Cleburne, TX. Dwight worked as an estimator on road constructions. He was a member of Kiwanis and a long time member of League Street Church of Christ. He loved riding motorcycles and especially spending time with his family. In addition to his wife Barbara he is survived by one son, Doug Smith and wife Kristi of Temple, one daughter, Laura Smith and husband Robert of Sulphur Springs, brother, David Smith of Watauga, sisters, Shirley Thomas and husband Leroy of Ft. Smith, AR and Marilyn Cope of Grapevine, TX, grandchildren, Chantry Rayl and wife Betsy of Vernon, TX, Ryann Lackey of Sulphur Springs, Taylor Cathey of Sulphur Springs, Drew Smith of Temple, TX, and Addison Smith of Temple, TX, great-grandchildren, Walker, Justin, Beckett, Nora Jean, Oakley and Phoenix. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brother’s and one sister. In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Medical City Hospital for Children in Dallas, TX.
