COMMUNITY PARTNER: Brookshire Grocery Company and Junior Waverly Club
The doors to Fellowship Hall at First United Methodist Church will open at 11:00 a.m. Meal service begins at 11:30 a.m. and doors will close at 12:45 p.m. Please come join us to share fellowship and a meal.
Our sponsors this week include Junior Waverly Club and Brookshire’ Grocery Company.
The Junior Waverly Club was organized for women in 1925 by the Waverly Club. The Club held its 100th anniversary celebration in 2025 and continues today with 29 active members.
This group of community involved ladies has over the years sponsored candidates for Dairy Festival Queen and built floats for them. They sponsor an annual scholarship which is awarded to a Sulphur Springs High School Student; and they also support the Hopkins County Health Care Foundation Gala. Should there be an activity or cause for civic improvement in Sulphur Springs a member or members of the Junior Waverly Club are involved, usually in a leadership role.
We are blessed to have them as one of our community sponsors as well as their presence in serving lunch.
Our second community sponsor this week is Brookshire Grocery Company. On Sept. 1, 1928, their Company founder Wood T. Brookshire opened a small grocery store on the courthouse square in downtown Tyler, Texas. W.T. Brookshire began with four employees in a small, 2,500-square-feet store. He laid a foundation of core values focused on incredible customer service, tenacity and competitive grit. W.T. Brookshire believed it was his God-given calling to serve his community through the grocery industry. Because of that, Brookshire Grocery Co. is still family owned.
Today, the company has grown to include more than 200 stores – operating under the brands of Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, FRESH by Brookshire’s, Reasor’s and FRESH by Reasor’s.
At BGC, their number one focus is on people. Their tradition of outstanding service was instilled over 95+ years ago when W.T. Brookshire made the decision to place the customer as his top priority. This same commitment extends to their employee-partners – the more than 19,000 people who help make BGC successful every day.
BGC is a family-owned, Christian company and partners can expect for meetings to begin with a prayer, followed by the company’s core values, mission and vision statements. One of the company’s core values is ‘The Team Matters’ and this is evident throughout the company. One often hears partners refer to their coworkers as their “BGC family,” because their partners truly care about each other, like family.
We plan to continue dining every Wednesday except for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.
