Wildcats, Lady Cats Tournament Soccer Games on Friday are Canceled

Both the Wildcats and Lady Cats’ soccer tournament games scheduled for Friday (January 10) have been canceled. The Wildcats are playing in the 2020 Lobo Invitational in Longview. They were scheduled to play Jacksonville Friday but again that game has been canceled. The Wildcats are also scheduled to play Forney Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Grass Soccer Field at Longview. Thursday the Wildcats lost a close game against Lufkin, 4-3 in the tournament. The Wildcats got two goals from Alejandro Diosdado, one assisted by Kevin Yanez and the other by Omar Hernandez. Yanez also scored an unassisted goal. The Wildcats season record is now 1-3-1. Wildcats Soccer Coach Alexi Upton said it was a great game and high flying with a playoff-like atmosphere. He said he was so proud of the competitiveness in his boys. He noted that Lufkin was preseason ranked #8 in the region by TASCO, the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Organization. Coach Upton said the Wildcats need to avoid mistakes. He said the Wildcats gave up two penalties that hurt them.

Meanwhile the Lady Cats are playing in the 2020 Pine Tree Lady Pirate Showcase. They were scheduled to play Cleburne Friday but again that game has been canceled. The Lady Cats are scheduled to play host Pine Tree Saturday at 6 p.m. in Pine Tree Stadium. Thursday the Lady Cats lost their opening game in the tournament to Jacksonville, 2-0. Lady Cats Coach Javier Aguayo said early in that game, the Lady Cats were doing okay against Jacksonville keeping possession of the ball for the first ten minutes of the match. Then he said after that, it all fell apart. Coach Aguayo said the Lady Cats made a lot of mistakes that made it harder for them to come back and take control of the game. Coach Aguayo said it was a rough start to the tournament. He said the Lady Cats were disappointed but he said all they can do is keep their heads up and continue to work hard for games ahead. The Lady Cats season record is now 0-1-1.
