Wildcats Team Tennis Results Against T-High

Texas High Wins Team Tennis Match Over Wildcats But Mixed Doubles Gets a Win

Progress comes in baby steps as Wildcats Team Tennis chips away at the Texas High dynasty in district play. The score Tuesday (September 17) in Texarkana was Texas High 18, Wildcats 1. The Wildcats mixed doubles team of Jonah Kirkpatrick and Jeauxleigh Cantu got the win. The Tigers have only surrendered four points to the Wildcats over the past thirteen years. In 2007, Wildcat Morgan McCormick won a girls singles match for then Wildcats Coach James Lovett. Over the next nine years, Texas High won 19-0. The Wildcats broke through in 2017 as Alex Benitez defeated a Tiger in boys singles. Last year Wildcats freshman Paige Miesse got a win in girls singles. Then Tuesday Wildcats Cantu and Kirkpatrick got the win. Tony Martinez has been the Wildcats Tennis Coach for the last three wins. The Wildcats are now 1-2 in district play and 4-11 for the season. The Wildcats are scheduled to play at home against Mount Pleasant next Tuesday and the Tigers are having a hard time getting a complete team together. Royce City does have field a team. Therefore the Wildcats are almost a certainty for the playoffs and a third place district finish behind Texas High and Lindale.
