Bus Altercation At Cumby Rest Stop Results In Virginia Man’s Arrest

A physical confrontation between two men sitting beside one another on a Greyhound bus early Thursday morning reportedly resulted in a 25-year-old Earlysville, Virginia man’s arrest for assault causing bodily injury.

Cumby police were dispatched at 1:48 a.m. Thursday to a complaint of an active physical fight between two individuals on a Greyhound bus parked at the rest stop on Interstate 30 east.

A 31-year-old mam claimed the Virginia man had assaulted him while on the bus, where the pair had reportedly been sitting next to each other. The Virginia man allegedly punched the other man multiple times in the head, neck and the left shoulder. The 31-year-old bus rider had visible injuries,” Cumby Police Sgt. Ray Embro alleged in arrest reports.
The Virginia man allegedly told Embro the man sitting beside of him “was fondling his private area and punched him,” Embro noted in arrest reports.

Witnesses, however, claimed the 31-year-old was on the phone. The 25-year-old beside him appeared to suddenly wake up, then aggressively attacked the other man. The witnesses claimed the victim did not fight back and didn’t do anything wrong. One witness reportedly attempted to intercede, according to police reports.

Embro took the Virginia man to jail on a Class B misdemeanor assault charge. He remained in the county jail Friday morning, June 14, according to jail reports.
