Lady Cats’ Softball Dominates Season Opener; Hosts Tournament Thursday

The Lady Cats’ softball team opened the regular season with a dominating 10-0 win at Athens Monday afternoon. The game was called after 5 innings due to the ten run rule.

Lady Cats pitcher Bailey Haggerty tossed a five inning one-hit shutout. She struck out 5 and walked only 1. Meanwhile the Lady Cats rapped out 8 hits and drew 8 walks. Brinklee Driver hit a home run and drive in 2 runs. Kelsey Wallace was 2 for 4 with 2 singles, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI’s. Landri Bell was 2 for 3 with 2 singles, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. Alli Fite was 2 for 3 with 2 singles a run scored and 1 RBI. Alyssa Abron walked twice and scored 2 runs.

The Lady Cats scored 6 runs in the top of the second after a scoreless first inning. They added 3 more runs in the top of the third and a tenth run in the top of the fifth.

The 1-0 Lady Cats play next in the Sulphur Springs Tournament. They play Caddo Mills at Lady Cat Park Thursday at 9 a.m.They also play Mesquite Poteet Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Lady Cat Park.
