Lady Cats’ Volleyball Second at Wills Point Tourney; Host Mt Vernon Tuesday

The Lady Cats’ volleyball team made it all the way to the championship final in a Wills Point tournament this past weekend before suffering their first loss in the tourney. They finished second in a 16 team field. The Lady Cats dropped the final match to Forney Saturday, 11-25, 20-25 and 10-25. On Friday the Lady Cats defeated Van, Lone Oak and Kaufman in pool play. Earlier Saturday the Lady Cats topped Texas High, 2-1 and Wills Point, 2-0. That set up the finale against Forney.

The Lady Cats are now 12-5 for the season with two of the losses to the Lady Jackrabbits. Lady Cats Coach Justin Maness said he was very pleased with how his team performed during the weekend. On Saturday, in kills, Kaylee Jefferson has 25, Autumn Tanton 22, Mieke VanBenthem 8 and Sheretta Hill 6. Tori Moore had 65 assists. In digs, Jefferson had 34, Anden Hammack had 21, Maggie McGlamery 19 and Imani Taylor 11. Taylor also had four service aces and Hammack 1. In block assists, VanBenthem had 7, Tanton 3 and Hill 2. In block solos, VanBenthem had 3 and Tanton 2.

The Lady Cats play at home Tuesday night at 6 p.m. against Mt. Vernon.
