NRA Grant Expands Firearm Qualification for WPD

police lightsWinnsboro Police Department has received a grant from the National Rifle Association to fund a quarterly officer’s firearms qualification. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement requires that each commissioned officer in the state qualify once each calendar year with any firearm they carry on duty. The grant totaled $2121.80.

WPD Captain Chris Hill said “We are very excited about the quarterly firearms qualification grant for WPD officers and pleased that the NRA is making an investment in our community.”

Although the state requires the annual qualification, Hill said WPD believes that is simply not enough. The grant that will be spent on ammunition will enable officers to qualify on a quarterly basis and increase the amount of firearms training for WPD officers by 300%.
