Mamie Jo Birdsong Bagby

Funeral services for Mamie Jo Birdsong Bagby, age 98, will be conducted 11 A.M. Wednesday, December 2, at First Baptist Church Winnsboro. Interment will follow in Cypress Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the service at the church. Mrs. Bagby passed away in Winnsboro, on Saturday, November 28, 2015.

She was born January 16, 1917 in Dike, Texas, to the late Chester Birdsong and Callie Connelly Birdsong. She lived in the Winnsboro area until she married Herbert W. Bagby of Quitman. Her husband was in the military and was located in various places, along with serving several tours in Germany. When he retired, they returned to Winnsboro, where she lived the remainder of her life.  Jo was a homemaker, always extending an open invitation of her home to her family and friends. She was gifted in growing flowers and plants. She spent hours working her beautiful flower garden. She was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed sharing at church functions and with her family and friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Winnsboro and was very active in teaching Sunday School for many years and held leadership positions in Women’s Missionary Union.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert W. Bagby; two brothers, J.L. Birdsong and Wane Birdsong; three sisters, Wanda Secrest, Doris Russell, and Betty Richardson.

She is survived by one brother-in-law, Horace Russell of Harlingen, Texas; nine nephews and nieces and a host of cousins.

Beaty Funeral Home of Winnsboro is in charge of the arrangements.
