Lady Cats’ Basketball Team Still Struggling
The Lady Cats’ basketball team struggled offensively in Friday night’s 41-32 loss to Pine Tree at home. Coach Jeff Chapman hopes moving point guard Daieyshia Pruitt to another position will help since she’s a good offensive weapon. He is looking at point guard options as the Lady Cats, 3-4 in district, travel to Longview Tuesday night.
“Updated” Lady Cats Come Out Cold, Drop Another one
The Lady Cats’ basketball team was as cold as the weather when it came to shooting in a 54-30 loss at Hallsville Tuesday night. The Lady Cats shot only 23% from the field including 1 of 11 from three-point range. Hallsville jumped out to an 18-3 first quarter lead and never looked back. Daieyshia Pruitt led the Lady Cats with 12 points and six rebounds. The Lady Cats are 3-3 in district and 12-9 overall. They host Pine Tree Friday. I...
Lady Cats Showing Potential
The Lady Cats’ basketball team scored 61 points to defeat Greenville Friday night, 61-55. At the first of the season, did anyone think the Lady Cats could score 61 without Desi Debase, who is out for the season after knee surgery Friday? I asked Coach Jeff Chapman that question on KSST and Channel 18 TV’s Saturday Morning Coaches Show and he said he would have answered no. Coach Chapman had more to say.
Lady Cats Face Greenville Friday
Lady Cats Basketball Coach Jeff Chapman chose to stress the positive after his team’s 46-39 district win at home over Mt. Pleasant Tuesday night. The win evened the Lady Cats district record at 2-2 and improved their season mark to 11-8. Coach Chapman liked the combination of a team getting better and also winning. The Lady Cats will seek another big district road win Friday as they travel to Greenville to face the Lady Lions.
Lady Cats Slip to 1-2 in District Play
Lady Cats Basketball Coach Jeff Chapman said last Friday’s district game at Texas High wasn’t too pretty for the Lady Cats. After a close first quarter, the Lady Tigers pulled away for a 67-50 win. Coach Chapman felt his young team was a little intimidated in a tough environment. He said team members are working hard to get better. Coach Chapman said their goal is to play better at home Tuesday night against Mt. Pleasant.
Lady Cats Win at Marshall
Lady Cats Basketball Coach Jeff Chapman figured out he didn’t have his team’s complete undivided attention Friday night in Marshall. Christmas vacation was near and it was finals week. After a 33-27 win, as Coach Chapman was going over some of their mistakes, the Lady Cats were excited about the win and were laughing. Coach Chapman said the Marshall coach had the same problem. The Lady Cats are now on Christmas break. They’ll play in...
Desi Debase Out for the Year
The Lady Cats’ basketball team will have to do without star point guard and leading scorer Desi Debase who is out, perhaps for the entire season, due to an ACL knee injury. Desi injured the knee on Tuesday of last week in Tyler against John Tyler. Coach Jeff Chapman has promised to battle all opponents with the players he has available.
Lady Cats Basketball Tournament Update
The Lady Cats’ basketball team played the entire Edgewood tournament without leading scorer Desi Debase this past weekend. The team won one and took two close losses. The Lady Cats are now 7-4. I talked with Lady Cats Basketball Coach Jeff Chapman Monday morning.
Lady Cats Lose One, Debase Injured
Desi Debase, the leading scorer for the Lady Cats Basketball Team, tweaked her knee against John Tyler Tuesday night. She missed more than half the game in the 56-34 loss. Desi’s knee will be medically evaluated. Lady Cats Basketball Coach Jeff Chapman is not counting Desi out, but for some time he’s wanted to see more from other players on the team. Now he may have to speed up the progress. The Lady Cats play in an Edgewood...
Lady Cats Open With a Win At Lindale
The Lady Cats’ basketball team opened the regular season on the road Tuesday night with a 49-30 win over Lindale. Coach Jeff Chapman agreed with a fan’s thought that there were a few glimpses of what the coach is hoping for from the team. The Lady Cats jumped out to an 8-point lead after the first quarter and then put the game away with a ten-point advantage in the third quarter. Desi Debase led the Lady Cats with 17-points and also...
