Time Capsule Will Open Monday
For a while it appeared the unearthing of a 25-year old time capsule on Monday would have to be cancelled. The capsule, buried 25 years ago on the 75th anniversary of the Extension Service and scheduled to be opened this year on the 100th anniversary, proved hard to find. Trax Service Update
Some people were concerned when they had trouble calling for TRAX bus service beginning Thursday. The service continues to operate as it has but it is under new ownership and consequently has a new phone number. The new number is 903 691-5837. Alliance Bank Independence Celebration Fundraiser
Alliance Bank CEO Tom Sellers says there will be something new at Saturday’s Independence Concert and Fireworks event. Alliance Bank will be selling fans for $1 to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Sellers says the bank will match the funds raised from the fan sale. Symphony League President’s Favorite Independence Day Tune
Everyone seems to have a favorite tune they enjoy at Independence Concerts on Celebration Plaza. For Sulphur Springs Symphony League President Kayla Price it is Jay Unger’s Ashokan Farewell. SSISD School Board Special Meeting
At a special meeting Wednesday, the Sulphur Springs School Board gained a little as they attempt to fill their vacancies for the next school year. Hopkins County Unemployment Rate Lowest In Region
The latest figures for May show Hopkins County with the lowest unemployment rate in the region. The unemployment rate was 4.3%. The report also indicated that there were only 813 unemployed persons in the county. By Don Julian, KSST News and Sports Director
S.S.P.D. Names New Patrol Captain and Interdiction Officer
When Sulphur Springs Police Chief Jim Bayuk moves to the Sulphur Springs ISD Police Department on August 1, it will have a domino effect. Patrol Captain Jay Sanders, appointed by the City Council, will become chief. Interdiction Officer Lt. Jason Ricketson will take over as Patrol Captain. Start Date Set For Construction Of New Hopkins County Jail
Hopkins County Sheriff Butch Adams said Thursday that the latest start date for construction of the new County Jail is expected to be August 11. A key person for Sedalco of Fort Worth, the construction manager-at-risk, is expected to be off of another project and to be available for the new County Jail project here by that date. Two Locals Arrested, More Arrests to Come
Two Hopkins County men have been charged with possessing child pornography. Another arrest or two are possible pending a forensic download of a computer in Tyler. The cases are not believed to be connected. There is a new barricade up downtown but Sulphur Springs City Manager Marc Maxwell says this one is for a minor problem. Some stucco is falling off of a sidewall of an old fabrics building on Main Street across the street from Muddy Jakes.
