Shooting In Saltillo Area
A man was shot and the shooter was beaten with a pipe wielded by a friend of the shooting victim after a confrontation at a residence on County Road 3366 in Saltillo Sunday afternoon (June 29th). The shooting victim was taken to a Tyler hospital. The man who was assaulted was taken to Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. No names have been released and no arrests have been made. The 25-year old time capsule buried to recognize the 75th anniversary of the Extension Service was unearthed and opened Monday (June 30th). The contents were in good shape. Beating And Carjacking Suspect Arrested
A Hopkins County man wanted for beating his grandfather and taking his car early Monday morning was arrested around noon Monday (June 30th) and now is in the Hopkins County Jail. The man has been identified as 37-year old Alan Dale Rhys. The carjacking occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Monday in the Saltillo area. Later the vehicle was found wrecked in Franklin County. SSHS Boys and Girls Soccer Camp
The annual SSHS Boys and Girls Soccer Camp is always well attended. For the past few years it has been in the evening. It is run by Wildcats Coach Andy Holt and Lady Cats Coach Jesus DeLeon. Time Capsule to be Opened
It could be just like Christmas morning for Hopkins County officials and Extension Service members. Monday at noon a 25-year old time capsule will be opened to mark the 100th birthday for the Extension Service. The time capsule was buried in 1989. Garland Man Arrested
A 26-year old man from Garland was arrested for burglary of a motor vehicle by a Sulphur Springs police officer Friday at 4:40 p.m. The incident occurred at a car dealership at 1500 West Industrial. The Sulphur Springs City Council is expected to take up a couple of matters at a Tuesday regular meeting that they postponed during their June meeting.
