Sulphur Springs City Council Meets Tuesday Noon on Budget

Hopkins County Commissioners Court Meets on Jail & Budget Monday
The Hopkins County Commissioners Court has scheduled two public hearings for a Monday meeting at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom on the first floor of the County Courthouse. One public hearing is for the tax rate in the proposed budget that is going up more than 5-cents due to the new county jail project. A second public hearing is for the proposed budget. Sulphur Springs School Board Meets Monday on our Tax Rate
The Sulphur Springs School Board will conduct a public hearing on the tax rate for the budget for this school year at a special meeting Monday at 6 p.m. in the Board Room at the Admin Building. The tax rate is $1.35 cents per $100 valuation, same as last year. The board is also expected to adopt the budget for next school year. Classes get underway Tuesday. Hospital Budget to be Discussed Monday Night
Hopkins County Memorial Hospital CEO Michael McAndrew is expected to discuss the proposed budget for next fiscal year at a hospital board meeting Monday night at 6 p.m. in the Plaza Conference Room. The Wildcats co-ed Team Tennis Squad had a tough time against Wills Point in a non-district match at Wills Point Thursday losing 19-0. The Wildcats are now 0-2 for the season. School Starts Tuesday, Drive Careful
Sulphur Springs Police Chief Jay Sanders reminded the driving public Friday that flashing school zone signs would be activated Tuesday, the first day of classes in town. He said police officers would be working them as usual during the school year. They’ll be looking for drivers going too fast or using cell phones. Surprise At New Hopkins County Jail Site
Workers doing dirt work for the new Hopkins County Jail project north of the current jail unearthed a surprise recently. They found what appears to be a railroad spur that had been buried. County Judge Robert Newsom says it shouldn’t raise any environmental issues. He can’t find any records for the spur.
