Meeting Monday, the Hopkins County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to adopt the national motto In God We Trust as their own. A plaque in the Commissioners Courtroom now indicates it. County Judge Robert Newsom said over 100 cities in California have also done this as well as some cities and counties in Texas. Hopkins County Memorial Hospital continues to consider partnering with another healthcare entity. CEO Michael McAndrew feels a larger presence will be needed for hospitals in the future. The Wildcats Cross Country Team finished third and the Lady Cats sixth at a Wylie meet on Saturday. Jacob Gatewood paced the Wildcats with an 8th place finish. Arrest Made In Connection To Tobacco Shop Burglary
Five thieves broke into a Sulphur Springs tobacco shop in the 1000 block of Gilmer around 3 a.m. Sunday. A citizen heard glass breaking and notified police. Lawmen pursued a vehicle west on I-30 until spike strips disabled it near Cumby. One man was arrested in a manhunt but another eluded capture. Capital Murder Suspect Arrested
Working on a tip, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department arrested 21-year old James Crawford of Talco for a capital murder in Mt. Vernon last week. The suspect was arrested in an apartment in Marshall at 1 a.m. Tuesday. Crawford is accused of the murder of 75-year old Kenneth Raley of Mt. Vernon.
