“Updated” Application For Fluid Injection Well Permit Filed in Hopkins County

“Updated” Application For Fluid Injection Well Permit Filed in Hopkins County

Dimock Operating Company, 4245 Kemp Boulevard, Suite 518, Wichita Falls, Texas 76308 is applying to the Railroad Commission of Texas for a permit to inject fluid into formations which are productive of oil and gas. The applicant proposes to inject fluid in the Sub-Clarksville and Coker Formations, Payne, N.P. Lease, Well No. 1. The proposed injection well is located 8 miles in a Southeast direction from Como, Texas in the Como (Consolidated) Field in Hopkins County, Texas. Fluid will be injected into strata in the subsurface depth interval from 3,994 to 4,210 feet.

According to Keith Dimock, Chief Operating Officer of Dimock Operating, the work carried out in the Como Oil Field in southeastern Hopkins County is specifically an injection well where salt water is injected into concrete casings to depths thousands of feet into the earth. Dimock states that the water is basically sea water that is contained in the concrete casings which are used to protect surface water as well as any operational oil wells in the area. A larger path, called a surface casing, is followed to depths as deep as 800 feet passing aquifer depths that only reach to 600 feet. Then a smaller casing or long string, as it is called, is used to reach beyond the oil pools. He states that some of the salt water injection levels can be as deep as 10,000 feet.

Dimock stated in a phone interview with KSST that injections wells have been in Hopkins County and surrounding oil fields since the 1950’s. He says his company is environmentally conscience and would not allow any process to be followed that does not lead to water safety. Texas Railroad Commission rules are followed closely as well according to Dimock, who called himself a tree-hugger.

LEGAL AUTHORITY:    Chapter 27 of the Texas Water Code, as amended, Title 3 of the Texas Natural Resources Code, as amended, and the Statewide Rules of the Oil and Gas Division of the Railroad Commission of Texas.

Requests for a public hearing from persons who can show they are  adversely affected, or requests for further information concerning any aspect of the application should be submitted in writing, within fifteen days of publication, to the Enviornmental Services Section, Oil and Gas Division, Railroad Commission of Texas, P.O. Box 12967, Capitol Station, Austin, Texas 78711

(Telephone 512/463-6792).
