Lady Cats 19 Game Winning Streak Ends in Final Seconds of Bi-District
The Lady Cats’ basketball team led for almost the entire bi-district game Monday night at Rockwall- Heath until North Forney went ahead on a big three point shot with just a few seconds left. The Lady Falcons preserved the lead with an interception of a long pass and then tacked on one more foul shot to win the game, 46-43.
The Lady Cats led by 6, 33-27, going into the fourth quarter but they were outscored, 19-10 in the last quarter. Lady Falcons leading scorer Kalen Green hit the decisive three point shot and led all scorers with 17 points. Sadavia Porter led the Lady Cats with 12 points before fouling out with several minutes left to play. Kaylee Jefferson scored 11 points despite drawing a crowd of defenders every time she touched the ball.
The game marked the last game for four Lady Cats seniors: Tori Moore, Rita Hill, Daieyshia Pruitt and Destinee Weeks. The Lady Cats ended the season with a 26-4 record, tying last year’s total of 26 wins, the most by a Coach Jeff Chapman team here. The team’s legacy will include winning a second straight district championship.
The bi-district loss broke a 19 game winning streak for the Lady Cats including a perfect 12-0 district record.

Game Day: Lady Cats, North Forney in Bi-District Tonight
On KSST Radio and Channel 18 TV’s Saturday Morning Coaches Show, Lady Cats Basketball Coach Jeff Chapman talked about his team’s chance in a bi-district game against North Forney Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Rockwall Heath. Coach Chapman said if the Lady Cats play the way they are capable, they have a good chance to win the game. He added if the Lady Cats play good defense, they should have a really good shot to win.
He said his team matches up well with the Lady Falcons, who are 20-12 overall and were 8-6 in their district. North Forney leading scorer is senior Kalen Green, a quick, 5-foot-six point guard. Coach Chapman said the Lady Falcons post player can shoot the ball well. He believes whichever team wants to win the most, will win.
The Lady Cats were 12-0 in district play and they are 26-3 for the season. The Sulphur Springs-North Forney winner will play the winner of a Frisco Liberty and Little Elm game being played Monday also.

Weekends Busy for Wildcats Tennis
Wildcats Tennis Coach Tony Martinez said a couple of his mixed doubles teams and a boys doubles team did well at a 16-team Kilgore tournament last Friday. Coach Martinez singled out the mixed doubles teams of Jaspyn Johnson and Kade Brown and Chase Crouch and Brynn Offutt and the boys doubles team of Tyler Stout and Alex Benitez. Coach Martinez said it was a great tournament with players guaranteed four or five matches. He said the team got back to town around 10:30 p.m. Competition included Nacogdoches, Henderson, John Tyler, Whitehouse and Center.
The Wildcats will continue to play in tough tournaments as they’ll participate in a Tyler Lee tournament this Friday. Coach Martinez said the rugged competition the Wildcats will face should prepare them for district play.

Rain Moves Wildcats Baseball Scrimmage to Monday Night
With a very good chance of rain on Tuesday, the Wildcats’ baseball team’s scrimmage with Royse City at Eagle Stadium has been moved from Tuesday to Monday. The Wildcats JV Royal Team will play the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Monday and the Wildcats’ varsity will scrimmage Royse City at around 6:30 p.m. Monday at Eagle Stadium.
The Wildcats played well in a scrimmage Friday at Eagle Stadium against Terrell. Monday’s scrimmage against Royse City will be the Wildcats third scrimmage. They will have their final scrimmage Friday evening at North Lamar. The Wildcats will open the regular season on Thursday, February 23 with back to back games against Forney and Lindale in the annual Rose City Classic in Tyler.

The Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce will present “An Evening in the Woods,” Dinner and Community Awards, at the Hopkins County Civic Center on Thursday, February 16th at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is being provided by Coffee Off the Square and includes smoked pork tenderloin with orange glaze, roast beef with gravy, green beans with bacon and almonds, build your own baked potato, green salad, rolls, S’mores and a hot chocolate bar.
Awards including Citizen of the Year, Woman of the Year, Caregiver of the Year, Community Pride Award, Agriculturist of the Year, Large Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, and Educator of the Year will be presented to deserving citizens of Hopkins County. There will also be a raffle of a guided duck hunt AND a guided fishing trip that will be drawn that evening. So please join us for a beautiful “Evening in the Woods”.
