City Director of Development Niewiadomski Begins Work This Week

Tory Niewiadomski sees Sulphur Springs as a good place to live and raise a family. That is why he is moving his wife and 4-year old daughter and 2-year old son to the city as Niewiadomski begins his work as Community Development Director. Niewiadomski said he and his wife had visited Texas several times over the past 10 years. The trees, lakes, and outdoor spaces in Northeast Texas attracted him to the area.

When the Development Director position opened, he began to do research into what Sulphur Springs was doing. He came from the mid-Michigan area. For the past seven years he has been a Director of Development for a community there and a consultant for planning and zoning. As Sulphur Springs begins to develop a new comprehensive plan for the city, Niewiadomski thinks this is a good time to begin his work.

Wildcats Begin Bi-District Action Friday at North Forney

The Wildcats’ baseball team is matched up with North Forney in bi-district action Friday and Saturday. Wildcats Baseball Coach Jerrod Hammack describes the Falcons as a confident team on a roll going into the playoffs. He says they were on the outside looking in before play Friday. Friday night they upset crosstown rival Forney, the district’s top team. Then Saturday they defeated Wylie East and Lovejoy.

They didn’t just make the playoffs, they grabbed the number 3 seed. Coach Hammac says the Falcons don’t have dominating pitching but he says they have a righthander and a lefthander who are good solid pitchers and who should keep them in any game. He says they also have a couple of really good hitters and some team speed. Coach Hammack says they like to run a little bit. He says confidence is just about everything in baseball and he says North Forney has a lot of confidence coming into the playoffs.

On the flip side, the Wildcats come in with a two game losing steak. Coach Hammacks says the team knows they let a game slip away Friday at Hallsville. He says the Wildcats did not have a very good game Saturday which he says happens in baseball. Don’t tell him his team will lack confidence going into the playoffs. He doesn’t buy that. He says his team knows what they are capable of.

Coach Hammack says his team will be ready to go Friday adding he has no doubt about that. He says his resilient team will regroup and will be just fine. He says he looks forward to the series.

Tenacity of Hopkins County Deputy Evans Leads to the Arrest of Man Wanted for Four Years

Tenacity of Hopkins County Deputy Evans Leads to the Arrest of Man Wanted for Four Years

Giving high praise to the tenacity of Hopkins County Deputy Corporal Todd Evans, Harold McClure with the Special Crimes Unit told KSST News that a four year search for Melroy Givens, 44, had come to a satisfactory end Wednesday, May 3, 2017, just before noon in DeSoto, Texas. Givens, a former resident of Sulphur Springs and now in Hopkins County Jail, was found at his residence in DeSoto.

McClure, in an interview to be aired on KSST Radio and Channel 18 Thursday, May 4th, said that Givens was wanted on three indictment warrants for Manufacture Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1,less than 1-gram in a Drug Free Zone and on a Blue Warrant (State Warrant) for Violation of Parole. McClure stated that the search for Givens began shortly after he was released from prison on parole in 2013 and violated that parole with the drug charges. Givens experiences with law enforcement began with theft in 1990 and moved into the drug scene in 1994.

McClure stated the search for Givens had been a roller coaster moving from strong leads to a near cold case off and on over the past four years. However, in recent months McClure had been given information regarding Givens whereabouts pointing toward DeSoto. He stated that Federal Marshalls had also been assisting in the search. The one deciding factor in the location for Wednesday’s arrest came from Corporal Evans. McClure stated that Evans had found and followed leads that convinced McClure and Hopkins County Criminal Investigator Corley Weatherford that Givens was at a specific address in DeSoto. McClure, Weatherford, Evans, and others along with the DeSoto Police made the call at the residence and the arrest was made.

Givens was taken before a Justice of the Peace in DeSoto for a magistrates hearing and, as of 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, was residing in the Hopkins County Jail.
