9th Annual Help-A-Child Benefit Saturday, October 8, 2016

On Saturday, October 8, 2016, the 9th Annual Tractor Pull and Chili and Brisket Cook-off will be held at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center. All proceeds benefit children at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center, and the Southern Christian Home for Children in Arkansas. At 9 a.m., the Antique Tractor Pull & Show will be held inside the Civic Center and conducted by the Lake County Antique Tractor Association. County Judge Robert Newsom read the National 4-H Week Proclamation on the steps of the Hopkins County Courthouse on Monday afternoon. The community was invited and greeted by 4-H parents, members, and leaders. Decorations in “4-H green” covered the table and adorned the cake that was provided for all visitors.

Hopkins County Fall Festival Cover Girl contestants will compete October 18th and 20th  to be crowned at the 34th Annual Cover Girl Contest conducted in the Civic Center. This is the 47th Annual Hopkins County Fall Festival. The reigning 2015-2016 Cover Girl, Aleigh Bessonett, a Senior at Miller Grove high school, is the daughter of Bill and Cherrie Bessonett. Earlier this year, at the Ms. Hopkins County Senior Classic Pageant, Lavonne Elam earned the 2016 crown and since then has stayed busy appearing at ribbon cuttings, parades, grand openings and other public events. Now, Lavonne will represent Hopkins County again as she advances to State competition on October 1 in Tyler.
