By Savannah Owens Many people and families from all over Texas came to the 26th Annual Independence Day Celebration to see the symphony concert and fireworks. While the concert was delayed about an hour due to rain, the streets were still packed with patriots. Hamburgers lead the list for favorite 4th of July foods for Americans according to a recent survey. However, Texans have a different take. BBQ leads the Texans list for favorite food and a cookout or picnic is their favorite activity. The US favorites in the food category include: burgers first at 31%, BBQ at 25%, Hot Dogs 14%, Chicken 11%, with sides at 10%, and desserts at 8%. Activities include cookout/BBQ/Picnic 34.1%, watch fireworks 30.8%, hanging out in the water 13%, going to a parade 10.4%, hosting a party 6%, going shopping 4%....

Fall Festival is an annual October event in Hopkins County. But that doesn’t mean that Fall Festival fun can’t be summer fun too! 15 people took advantage of the Affiliated Driving Class at the Senior Citizens Center on Thursday, June 29th. Henry Barber, Instructor gives an interesting class that is good for Ticket Dismissal or a 10% Discount on your Liability Insurance.  The discount is good for 3 years. At the monthly meeting of the Lone Star Heritage Quilt Guild on June 26, 2017, about 60 persons, members and guests, were in attendance. Men are welcome, but only two were present. Everyone of any age who is interested in quilts and quilting is welcome at the meetings, held on the fourth Monday of each month at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Sulphur Springs. Everyone is invited to the Sulphur Springs VFW Post Home on Tuesday July 4 between 1 pm and 3:30 pm for a hamburger and hot dog cookout. Serving will take place inside the banquet hall.  The post home is located  at 1 Veterans Drive, located on East Industrial Drive along I-30 next to BEF Foods. VFW Post #8560 has a rich tradition of serving veterans, military families and the local community.
