Local Girl Scouts Help Harvey Victims
On September 9th, at 10 am, on the Square, help the Girl Scouts of Hopkins County give back to the children affected by Hurricane Harvey by donating school supplies: back packs, lunch boxes, pencils, crayons, glue sticks, markers, rulers; anything a child needs for school. The Bookworm Box in downtown Sulphur Spring is organizing a relief fund for Texas victims of Hurricane Harvey. An initial goal of $10,000 was set on Monday August 28, and in 24 hours, a flood of support caused that goal to be met. It was then matched by the Bookworm Box, and $20,000 in funds has already been dispatched. A second goal of $10,000 has now been set. Local seniors had a lot of fun during competition in almost a dozen different indoor “sports” at The Roc on Thursday afternoon August 24, 2017. There were competitors in age categories of 50 plus, 60 plus, 70 plus and 80 and above. Medals were awarded to first, second and third place winners in each game. Games included wheelchair race, bean bag toss, horseshoe pitching, nerf javelin, scooter races and 1k.
