Jim Rooks, a long time member of First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs, TX, loved the dish named Mexican Stack Up. His memory was celebrated at Dinner Bell Wednesday May 31st, 2017. Family members filled key serving positions at the weekly community meal. For dessert, a Mexican chocolate cake was served. “Jim loved all things chocolate, and Mexican Stack Up was his favorite.” Before Jim lost his battle with cancer, he also volunteered at Dinner Bell.

Kathleen Davis and Sherry Maynard are organizers of the 2017 fundraiser for “My Heroes” Special Needs group. Money raised is used for activities through the year for local youth and adult special needs individuals. They plan bowling, camping, movies, summer get-togethers and picnics and a Halloween Dance. Each year the list of activities grows, thanks to private donations and the generosity of persons attending the fundraiser. There is Happy Campers Summer School, Summer YMCA, STEM, Cooking Camp, open library, and a free meals program.
