The Knights of Columbus will be smoking turkeys and are also this week’s Dinner Bell Community Partner.
The Nov. 20 will be a Thanksgiving menu:
- Turkey, dressing and giblet gravy
- Cranberry sauce
- Fresh green beans with caramelized onions
- Festive sweet potatoes
- Winter fruit salad
- Yeast rolls
- Creamy layered pumpkin dessert
- Pumpkin fluff (the no added sugar dessert)

Tira News For The Week Of Nov. 12, 2019

The Cross Spur Cowboy Church youth group collected canned goods for the Tira Food Pantry. Sherry Smiddy reported that Ruth Ann Crowson donated canned goods, also.
Joyce Dodd shared, “We got a food donation from our angels and a money donation from Martha Payton and her brother Von Honzel.” She adds, “I, also, got a very nice donation of canned pork. We have a lot of good people around with a giving heart.”
We want to express our sincere appreciation to all of the groups and individuals who help keep the pantry going.
We appreciate all the expressions of sympathy in the tragic loss of our nephew, Josh Vaughn. His funeral was held on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Please continue to pray for his family.
Yvonne reports, “The Weir, Campbell and Esterhuyse families met at El Phoenix Saturday night to celebrate Dacy’s birthday. Dustin, Natalie, Maria and Everly spent the night with us.” They had family pictures taken.
Chip and I took a fall road trip along the Talimena drive in Oklahoma on Friday. The colors were beautiful. We came down through Broken Bow and visited with Chip’s brother and sister-in law, Jim and Sandra Vaughn, and their grandson, Thomas.

Fourth annual Salute the Veterans Cook-off
The fourth annual Salute the Veterans Cook-off on will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9 starting at 8 a.m. at the Hopkins County Heritage Park located at 416 North Jackson St. in Sulphur Springs. All-you-can-eat BBQ begins at 1 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids under 12, and free for veterans, active duty, and children under 6. Proceeds will benefit Operation Victor Echo Tango.
Veterans Memorial Unveiling of Killed in Action Sculpture
The Freedom Ball Committee is having a very special ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 4 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial to unveil the new sculpture and dedicate the KIA names recently etched on the walls.
Congressman John Ratcliffe will be the special guest, and hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be provided.

Veterans Day Parade scheduled for Nov. 9
A Veterans Day Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9, in Sulphur Springs to honor those who have served us. Beginning at 10 a.m., the parade will begin at Prim Stadium, head down Houston St., go through the downtown square, and continue out to the Brookshire’s. Grand Marshall for the parade is Clayton McGraw.
Designer Bag Bingo
The Hopkins County Health Care Foundation is hosting a Designer Bag Bingo Night on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center. Doors open at 5 p.m., and tickets are for sale for $30. That
ticket price gets you ten rounds of BINGO for a chance to win a designer bag by Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Vera Bradley, and more. Tickets are available at Alliance Bank, City National Bank, and Guaranty Bank

Lion’s Club will host the 12th Annual Christmas Parade on Friday, Dec. 6
The Lion’s Club is hosting the 11th Annual Christmas Parade Friday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. The parade usually begins at Buford Park and goes East on Connally Street to the square, turns left onto Church Street, and left on Houston Street to end in the Gerald Prim Stadium parking lot (watch the Lion’s Club Facebook page for possible route changes due to construction on Connally Street). You may pick up registration forms and rules at the
Chamber of Commerce. Registration forms must be received by noon on Tuesday, December 4.
Ribbon Cuttings
Aflac held their ribbon cutting celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at noon at the Chamber of Commerce, located at 110 Main St. in Sulphur Springs.

Ribbon Cuttings
Miss Behavin has officially opened their second location and hosted a ribbon cutting celebration on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at noon. They are located at 118 Main St. in Sulphur Springs. Stop by to shop and wish them congratulations on this second location.
The Barn of Emory, located at 550 County Road 3325 in Emory, hosted their ribbon cutting on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. In addition to the ribbon cutting, the Don Woods Jr. Band held a free concert at the venue at 7 p.m.

The mission of the Dinner Bell is to end hunger in Hopkins County. Fresh, hot, nutritious meals are prepared by volunteers each Wednesday and served to our guests at the First United Methodist Church. Through the generous support of church and community members and corporate sponsors we have been able to serve over 20,000 meals to those in need since opening our kitchen in 2012.
