Rain Overnight: More Expected on Saturday
April 2, 2026 – SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas — Rainfall over the past 24 hours brought measurable moisture to Hopkins County, with as much as 0.30 inches recorded overnight, offering a modest boost to soil conditions but continuing a pattern of unsettled spring weather.
Light rain moved through the Sulphur Springs area late Wednesday into early Thursday, accompanied by cloudy skies and mild temperatures. While the rainfall totals were not excessive, the steady precipitation contributed to damp ground conditions and brief ponding in low-lying areas.
Weather patterns this time of year often bring frequent shifts, and that trend is expected to continue. Forecasters say another round of rainfall is likely Saturday, with an estimated 0.4 inches possible as a cold front pushes south through Northeast Texas. The approaching front is expected to trigger additional showers and possibly thunderstorms, with heavier bursts of rain not out of the question.
The incoming system will also bring a noticeable cooldown. After several days of warm, humid conditions with highs near 80 degrees, temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 60s by Saturday afternoon, with cooler overnight lows following behind the front.
Spring in North Texas is typically marked by these fast-moving systems, where warm Gulf moisture collides with advancing cold fronts, producing rounds of rain and occasional severe weather. While this week’s activity has remained relatively mild, residents are encouraged to stay alert for changing conditions, especially heading into the weekend.
Looking ahead, drier and more stable weather is expected to return by Sunday, bringing partial sunshine and more comfortable temperatures to start the new week.
