Eva Hyde Sims

We are here to celebrate the life of Eva Hyde Sims who passed away Friday, October 3, 2025, at the age of 93. Eva was born April 11,1932, in Hagansport, Texas, to the late Marvin Hyde and Willie Henry Hyde.

Eva experienced the love and loss of her husband, Coy B. Sims in 2008. They married in 1950 and lived in the Hagansport area all their lives. They were blessed with one son, Tony Sims, the love of their lives after seven years of marriage.

Eva attended Hagansport School until her parents moved to Midland for a brief time. There she attended Midland High School and Hines Business College before returning to Hagansport. Eva loved athletics and played all sports available at that time, but basketball was her favorite, and she has passed her love for sports down to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Eva attended The Church of God of Prophecy in Hagansport where earlier in life she taught Sunday School and was Church Clerk and treasurer for twenty-five years. She also enjoyed visiting other churches in her community with friends and neighbors. She along with her family members were known statewide for singing at churches, funerals, and weddings.

Those who knew Eva will never forget her love for family, her flowers, gardening, and feeding and caring for the birds that came to her feeders.

Being born during the Great Depression, Eva knew about hard work and helping family, chopping and picking cotton to support her family. After her marriage, she and her husband had a dairy as he continued to lay bricks in all the surrounding areas and she worked in the dairy. She was a public employee until the age of 80.

For many years she was active in helping in elections, schools, primary and general.

Eva was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and a friend to all who knew her – as one family member said, “She mothered us all.’

Eva is survived by her son, Tony and wife, Barbara of Hagansport; two grand-daughters, Kristen Pirtle of Bogata, and Meghan Boles and husband, Ryan of Farmersville; three step grandchildren, Brantly, Bella and Quinton of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; four great-grandchildren, Taylor and Zachary Downs of Bogata, Holden Boles, and Huxley Boles of Farmersville. One bonus granddaughter, Temperance Johnson and husband, Gene and their two daughters, Meaka and Mazie Johnson of Mount Vernon and so many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy B. Sims; parents, Marvin and Willie Hyde; sister, Mary Sims and husband, Buster Sims, all of Hagansport, Macheal French of Sulphur Springs, and sister, Betty Bogue of Mt. Vernon.
