Como Street Traffic Stop

Sulphur Springs Police Officer Francisco Castro stopped a purple van at 9:35 a.m. Feb. 7, 2022, on Como Street at College Street for a traffic violation. While talking to the woman, Castro reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle. When asked about the odor, Katy Leanne Wilburn allegedly admitted she had recently smoked marijuana in the vehicle.

When asked to step out of the Chevrolet Uplander LS, the officer noted the woman’s front pants button and zipper were undone. He asked her why, if she had contraband in her pants. She claimed she did not and that there was nothing illegal in the van.

A search of the van, however, revealed several containers of suspected THC wax, and two baggies with orange pills suspected to be Adderall and MDMA (known on the street as Ecstasy). She was taken into custody and the vehicle was impounded.

At the jail, jail staff found another baggy containing a crystal-like substance the corrections officer suspected to be methamphetamine, another bag containing orange pills suspected to be Adderall, and a brown cigar containing a green, leafy substance of suspected marijuana, under her clothing and in her private area. A records check showed four warrants: two for driving while license invalid, one for expired operator’s license and one for failure to maintain financial responsibility. The substances were weighed. The suspected meth weighed 0.6 gram and the pills and other substances weighed less than 4 grams.

Wilburn, who jail reports show is also known by Red, Little Lucky, Snowball and Mikey, was charged with possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance (the suspected meth) and possession of more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 2 controlled substance, as well as the four traffic warrants. Fees owed on the four traffic charges totaled $2,035.40. She remained in Hopkins County jail Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022. Bond was set at $10,000 on the Penalty Group 2 charge and $5,000.

The substance field-tested positive for meth. Both Cooley and Fiends were booked into jail on a possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance charge. Field also was charged with failure to identify as a fugitive from justice and the parole warrant.

Fields, who jail reports show to be known to use the aliases Samantha Peasley and Makeisha Jones, remained in Hopkins County jail Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022.
