Funeral service for Dorothy Nell Hawkins, age 90, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel with Terry Bolten officiating. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Wood Cemetery in Honey Grove, Texas, with Ken Rawls, Rodney Flippin, Steve Hawkins, Kris Hawkins, Kenny Rawls and Scott Reid serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Dorothy passed away on August 4, 2021, in Sachse, Texas.
Dorothy was born on November 6, 1930, in Honey Grove, Texas, to Oatley Ennis and Tola (Burnside) Lynn. She married Bryd Hawkins in 1952. She taught elementary school in Sulphur Springs, Texas, for 27 years. Dorothy touched the lives of many with her special gift of teaching. She is at rest with the good Lord. Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Byrd; children, Jack Hawkins and wife Shelia of Sulphur Springs and Diane Rawls and husband Ken of Sachse, Texas; grandchildren, Kris Hawkins and wife Andgie of Dacula, Georgia, Mistie Watson of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Kennon Rawls and wife Brandi of Waxahachie, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Tawnie Hawkins and Jake Hawkins of Dacula, Georgia, Maranda and Mason Watson of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Kylie Prather, Aksel and Slade Rawls of Waxahachie, Texas.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Lynn; sister, Opal Melton; and great-grandson, Taylor Connatser of Mesquite, Texas.
