Trailing 5-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Wildcats rallied with three big runs to take the lead in a 6-5 win over Royse City in the district opener for both teams at Wildcat Park Tuesday night, March 10.
A Bulldog error in the inning led to two runs scoring. The Wildcats scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the first inning. Royse City tied it at 1-1 in the top of the third. The Wildcats then went up 3-1 in the bottom of the third. The Bulldogs struck for 4 big runs in the top of the fifth to go up 5-3. That lead lasted until the big Wildcats bottom of the sixth.
Hayden Hurst got the pitching win, throwing the last two innings allowing only 1 hit and no runs. Hurst struck out 5 and walked two. Jaxon Chaney started for the Wildcats and worked the first five innings allowing 6 hits and 5 runs, only 4 of them earned. Chaney struck out 8 and walked 2.
The Wildcats got RBIs from Will Sims, Jake Davis and Jace Evans.
The Wildcats won despite being being outhit 7 to 5. Hurst was 2 for 3 and he scored a run. Davis was 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Kolson Hale was 1 for 4 with a run scored. Chaney drew 2 walks. Sims scored a run and had an RBI. Alex Medina scored a run and walked twice. Austin Crouse walked. Evans was 1 for 2.
The Wildcats are 1-0 in district and 8-3-1 for the season. The Wildcats play next in the Reich Builders Classic Tournament in Hallsville taking place Thursday through Saturday.
