A 36-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested March 16 after allegedly trying to steal beer from Walmart.
Sulphur Springs Police responded at 3:46 p.m. at Walmart, where store staff alleged a shoplifter was being detained. Upon arrival, police contacted the suspect, who was inside of the store with asset protection staff, police alleged in arrest reports
Asset protection staff at the store allegedly told police that the man had attempted to leave the store without paying for a case of Keystone Ice beer. A records check showed the man to have one prior theft conviction, according to arrest reports.
He was taken into custody on a Class B misdemeanor theft of property valued at less than $100 with previous convictions charge, according to arrest reports. The 36-year-old Sulphur Springs man was released from Hopkins County jail later Monday, March 16. Bond on the charge was set at $1,000, according to jail reports.
