Wildcats Basketball Team Outscores Royse City, 72-62 Friday Night at Home

The Wildcats Basketball Team, ranked #10 in Class 5A, went up by 18 points at the half, survived hot shooting by Royse City in the third quarter and then outscored the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter to take a 72-62 win in the main gym at Sulphur Springs High School Friday night, February 14.

It was the Wildcats who were hot early, leading 22-7 after one quarter and 38-20 at halftime. The Bulldogs answered with a very hot shooting third quarter to outscore the Wildcats, 23-13, and to trim the deficit to 8 points. The Wildcats led Royse City, 51-43 after three quarters.

The Wildcats put the game out of reach by outscoring the Bulldogs early in the fourth quarter, 15-2, to make the score 66-45. Royse City made one last run at mostly Wildcats’ reserves to get to within 10 points at the final horn, 72-62.

The Wildcats had four players in double figures. Cameron Kahn led all scorers with 19 points, Sadaidriene Day Day Hall added 18 points. Lamodrick Johnson chipped in 15 points. Boo Wilkerson scored 10 points. Sophomore Caleb Alexander hit two three-pointers and scored 6 points. Justin Brock had a made three for 3 points. Grayson McClure had 1 point. Royse City senior Dalyn Dunbar led the Bulldogs with 18 points.

The Wildcats remain in second place in district as they improved their record to 7-2. The Wildcats are 25-8 for the season.

Mount Pleasant stayed in first place with a road win at Lindale, 46-35 Friday night. Mount Pleasant wraps up district play at Greenville on Tuesday.

The Wildcats have senior night Tuesday as they play Lindale at home.
