CHRISTUS Rehabilitation Specialists Jeff Sant and Kerry Herman Share Information during Ntl. Physical Therapy Month

Kerry Herman and Jeff Sant

Physical Therapist Jeff Sant has been performing professional rehabilitation services in Sulphur Springs for 22 years, first at the Sam Sevier Clinic and now through the hospital in Sulphur Springs. He has seen many changes and improvements in therapy treatments during that time, and has praise for the CHRISTUS Health Care System. During a KSST Good Morning Show interview, Sant stated “The Sulphur Springs rehab unit actually is the only clinic within the CHRISTUS system that offers Pediatric Therapy as well as Outpatient Speech Therapy, and that’s awesome for us! We are now able to handle a very broad range of therapies and treatments, including sports therapies, for people of all ages who need help getting back to normal function. Ours is a spacious facility with a large Aquatic Therapy Center as well as an Alter-G Treadmill, which ‘alters gravity’ and allows an almost weightless approach to rehab involving joints”. Sant also praised the Rehab Center’s capability to treat all types of Sports Injuries at the rehab facility in Sulphur Springs.

Speech Therapist Kerry Herman steered to her career from a background in Special Education in public schools. She knew she wanted to continue to work with children with special needs, but refined her specialty to speech therapy. Now she enjoys working with pediatric as well as geriatric patients. Among the many areas of treatment offered by the CHRISTUS Speech Therapy Rehab staff are voice disorders and fluency, sensory and cognitive disorders, recovery from stroke and joint replacement, even rehab needed following traumatic brain injury and birth defects with a very broad range of symptoms. Kerry stated “When we receive a referral from a pediatrician and treat a child, we must also educate the parents. Same with the caregivers of an elderly patient. We may send home a program of exercise for the patient, which must be performed at home until the next outpatient visit. We try to go to every extent to make sure the patient receives rehabilitation and makes the maximum improvement they can”.

Among other staffers at the Rehab Center are Elsie Ann Horton, Magan McCoy, Shannon Lawrence and Macy Johnson. The entire rehab staff is observing National Physical Therapy Month during October. An excerpt from the website of CHRISTUS Mother Frances Health Care System reads:
