Tira News For July 2, 2019

By Jan Vaughn

The Tira Homecoming is coming up this Sunday, July 7. The program, coordinated by Danna (Evans) Lewis, will begin at 11 a.m. in the Tira Methodist Church. She and Jerry Brandenburgh will be presenting the special music and leading the congregation in a couple of songs. Families of those who were buried in the Tira Cemetery during the past year will be recognized and there will be a brief business meeting. Attendees will have the opportunity to share memories about time spent in Tira. Following the program, a covered-dish lunch will be shared at the picnic tables. Please plan to come for a time of good food and fellowship.

Joyce Dodd reports that the Tira United Methodist Church has a new pastor, Nick Lance. He will begin preaching on July 14 at 11 a.m. Also, folks will have a chance to meet him at the Tira Homecoming on the 7th.

I had a call from Don Withrow in Maryland, and he and several family members from various areas in the United States are making the trip to be here for the homecoming. I look forward to meeting them. I hope that there will be many people there that they can connect with to share stories.

Our great-grandsons, Rylan, Brailon and Slaiden Joslin, came for a visit on Saturday evening. After playing awhile at our house, we went to Sulphur Springs and had a picnic at Kids Kingdom. The boys had a good time playing at the park, and then we went downtown to watch the spectacular fireworks display! Slaiden (4) kept saying, “That was so cool!” They spent the night with us and went to church with us on Sunday morning. Chip’s mother and sister, Grace and Linda Ellen Vaughn, joined us for lunch. The kids rode their bikes for a while before returning home that afternoon.

I don’t have much news this week. I hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July holiday and that we all take some time to be thankful for our freedom. I look forward to receiving reports about activities and being able to include them next week.

I always need and appreciate input from my friends to help keep me informed of news in our community. If you have any news pertaining to Tira residents, past or present, please contact me, Jan Vaughn, at 903-438-6688 or [email protected].
