Funeral Services for Willie Earl Sanders, 71, of Brazoria will be Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Fifth Street Church of Christ, 501 Elm Street, Sweeny, TX with Bro. Paul Sanders, Eulogizing and Bro. George McKnight, Officiating. Burial will follow at Mims Cemetery in Brazoria, TX.

Willie Sanders was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas to the late Floyd and Izora Sanders. He was the 6th of 7 children.

After graduating from high School in 1967, he attended Prairie View Agricultural & Mechanical College in Prairie View, Texas. He started working for the Dow Chemical Company Texas Division in Freeport, Texas in 1971 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Prairie View Agricultural & Mechanical College in 1973. He retired from Dow Chemical Texas Operations in 1998 after 28 years of service.

He was a member of the Third Street Church of Christ in Sweeny, Texas where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer.

Willie had a long history of community service. He served on the Board of Directors of B.C.T.H.I. (Brazoria County Transitional Housing, Inc), a nonprofit organization for assisting Homeless Veterans, served as a mentor at Sweeny Jr. High School, was a member of the Sweeny District Willing Workers, and for more than 20 years he served as a member of the Sweeny Lions Club and Lions Club International. He also served as the club President and Treasurer and on the Board of Directors for the Sweeny Lions Club.

Willie also served on the Brazoria County Democratic Party Executive Committee as Precinct Chair for Precinct 14. He was also re-elected as Section 1 Director for the Brazoria County Drainage District #11.

In his spare time, Willie enjoyed being a servant to the community, mowing his yard, being a faithful member of his church and spending time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Floyd B. Sanders, Sr. and Izora Sanders and brothers Felton Finney and Floyd B. Sanders, Jr.

His memories will be cherished by his wife of 44 years, Lottie Jones Sanders, Brazoria; three daughters, Deltry Epps (Gary), Brazoria, Erica Jordan (Robert), Spring, TX, LaSandra Sanders, DeSoto, TX; brothers, Curtis “Joe Boy” Sanders, Sr. (Frankie) Sweeny, TX, Paul Sanders (Claudie), Rogersville, AL; sisters, Darnetta Duncan, Riverside, CA, Dorothy Martin, Grand Prairie, TX, Geraldine Malone (Van, Sr.), Fort Worth, TX; four grandchildren, Delwin Johnican, Letra Johnican, Garrett Epps and Kennedy Jordan and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria. There will also be viewing at the church on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
