Bonita Polk

Bonita Polk, 64, of Commerce passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018 in Commerce.

Bonita Nell Polk was born on November 4, 1954 in Commerce, Texas to the parentage of Hugh Russell Fagan and Theresa Polk, but adopted and raised by A. R. Polk with the help of her maternal grandmother Ira (Arrie) Sampson (Commerce).  All of her parents and grandparents preceded her in death; maternal grandparents Ira and Leonard Ray Sampson Sr.; Kenneth and Williemae Fagan (Gilmer, Texas); Aunts, Ruby Lenora Allen (Commerce), Sharon Ann Daniels (Lubbock), Mary Odessa Henry (Commerce), Emzi Ann Fagan (Dallas), Maglean Fagan (Dallas), Mattie Pearl Fagan Pannell (Lawrence) of Commerce; Elizabeth Ann Fagan Terry (Dallas); Uncles Leonard “June” Sampson (Commerce), Lester Sampson (Commerce), and special cousin Audry Leon Kinchlow.

Bonita graduated from Commerce High School in Commerce, Texas in 1973.

Bonita was very independent and strong-willed.  She worked at various jobs in the Commerce area.  Bonita always thought outside of the box and lived her life to the fullest.  

Bonita accepted Christ at a young age.  She was a member of the Bethel Temple Church of God and Christ in Commerce, Texas and later joined Griffith Chapel Methodist Church in Commerce, Texas.

Bonita is survived by her aunts Gretchen McNealy (Wylie, Texas), Ira Jean Sampson (Dallas, Texas), Dorothy Hamilton (Denton, Texas); her uncles Charles Ray Sampson (Portland, Oregon) and James Austin Fagan (Dallas, Texas). Her sister Evelyn Simmons Finch (Lewis) of Allen, Texas; nephew Timothy Lemisy Sr. (Manami K); great-nephews Timothy Lemisy Jr., Trey Lemisy (Japan); and a host of cousins.

Serving as pallbearers are: Garrick Sampson, Sammy Sampson, Leonard Sampson,  Myreo Sampson, Tony Henry, Kenneth Henry, Odell Lewis, and Pat Adair.

Viewing will take place on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 29, 2018 in the chapel of Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service.  Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery.
