Soccer: Wildcats, Lady Cats Defeat Marshall

Wildcats Soccer 2, Marshall 0

The Wildcats’ soccer team continued their success in the second half of district play as they scored two second half goals to defeat Marshall, 2-0 at Gerald Prim Stadium Friday night. After the two teams battled to a scoreless tie after the first half, the Wildcats finally got a breakthrough goal from Axel Solorzano at the 21:40 mark in the second half. A little over 8 minutes later, the Wildcats got a second goal, this one from Eduardo Ramirez after a beautiful assist pass from Omar Hernandez, at the 13:16 of the second half. The defense for the Wildcats was strong all night. Goalkeeper Jonathan Lopez made a big save to keep the game scoreless in the first half. The Wildcats are now 4-4 in district play and they improved their season record to 11-10. The Wildcats play Texas High in Texarkana next Tuesday. They defeated the Tigers, 10-1 at Prim Stadium back on February 9.

Lady Cats Soccer 8, Marshall 0

The Lady Cats’ soccer team filled the net with goals as they topped Marshall, 8-0 on the road Friday night. The Lady Cats scored 3 first half goals and then exploded for 5 goals during the second half. The win improved the Lady Cats’ district record to 5-3. They are now 13-5-3 for the season. The Lady Cats will welcome former coach Jesus Deleon back to Sulphur Springs as they play Texas High at Gerald Prim Stadium Tuesday night. The Lady Cats won at Texarkana, 3-1 back on February 9.
