Wood County Sheriff’s Report February 1-7, 2017

For KSST’s Wood County audience, we will begin posting the Wood County Sheriff’s Report each week.

February 1st

While on patrol on FM 14, just north of Hawkins, a deputy observed that a vehicle was failing to maintain a single lane of travel and so conducted a traffic stop.  The driver appeared to be intoxicated so he was asked to exit the vehicle.  The deputy then noticed marijuana residue on the subject’s clothes.  While searching the vehicle, the deputy discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  The driver, Roy Greenlee, II, was determined not to be intoxicated, but was arrested for possession of marijuana, 2 ounces or less.

Deputies were dispatched to an alarm call at the Dollar General on E. Greenville in Alba.  Glass was shattered on one of the sliding glass doors and it appeared that someone had attempted to get into the money safe and also the cigarette case.  Camera footage showed 2 males enter the building and because they were unable to get into either the safe or cigarette case, they removed 2 boxes of beer out of the cooler.  The case has been forwarded to the Alba Police Department to follow-up.

At 1:11 p.m., cows were reported out on CR 1600 just east of CR 1602 in Alba.  They were returned to the pasture.

At 6:10 p.m., horses were reported out on FM 1647 at Highway 11.  They were returned to the pasture.

At 8:58 p.m., cows were reported out, but not located on FM 14 between 2088 and 37.

At 11:48 p.m., cows were out on FM 2088 east of 3120 in Quitman.  They were returned to the pasture.

February 2nd

At 6:54 a.m., horses were reported out, but not located on FM 1647 at Highway 11.

At 8:14 a.m., cows were out on FM 515 near FM 2225.  They were returned to the pasture.

Deputies were dispatched to CR 2425 in Mineola in regards to an unresponsive 27 year old male.  EMS was already on the scene and the individual was determined to be deceased.  An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.  The investigation is ongoing.

February 3rd

At 7:26 a.m., horses were reported out, but not located on CR 1660 in Alba.

At 9:58 a.m., cows were reported out on 37 N near CR 4893 in Winnsboro.  The fence was repaired and the cows put back into pasture.

Deputies were dispatched to a home located on PR 8556 in Winnsboro on a reported burglary.  An unknown person or persons broke into their house, storage building and shop and stole numerous items.  This case has been forwarded to investigators for follow-up.

Deputies were dispatched to a possible burglary of a building on Main Street in Yantis.  The business owner arrived for work to find the front door damaged and apparently kicked open.  She reported some of her inventory missing as well as some cash from a cash box.  Investigators will follow up.

At 6:52 p.m., cows were reported out on 2088, 2-3 miles west of 14.

Deputies were dispatched to a home on CR 3230 in reference to a theft.  The complainant stated that 2 home healthcare workers had stolen his wallet and phone and left with his car.  Investigators will follow up with this case.

Deputies arrived at a home on Front Street in Mineola looking for an individual in regards to a felony warrant service.  The individual who answered the door told deputies that he was alone at the residence, but the wanted individual was found to also be at the home.  Jorge Rodriguez was placed in custody for Hindering Apprehension.

Deputies were dispatched to the Dollar General on FM 2869 in Hawkins on an alarm call.  Unknown suspects had gained entry into the store through a window.  The manager arrived at the store and advised that approximately $1600.00 was missing from the safe.  This has been forwarded to investigators for follow-up.

February 4th

At 10:03 a.m., cows were reported out on N. 37 in Winnsboro.

The Sheriff’s office received a phone call reporting a scam.  The complainant received a phone call from an unknown man advising that she had won money in a contest.  He requested that she send a money gram for $350 before he could send her the contest money.  She sent a portion of the money, but when he insisted she send more, she decided to ask for her money to be returned.  He then hung up on her repeatedly when she pursued it.  Sheriff Tom Castloo recommends that, if you receive a similar phone call and have any doubts as to the truth of the information, please call the Sheriff’s office for advice.

Deputies were dispatched to a location on East 154 in Quitman regarding a burglary of a building.  The complainant reported several items missing from his barn.  The case has been forwarded to investigators.

Deputies were dispatched to CR 1660 in Alba.  The complainant reported that his dog had been shot in the right front leg by a small caliber rifle.  This case has been forwarded to investigators.

February 5th

At 1:01 a.m., cows were reported out on 2088/312.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on FM 14 south of CR 3679 at approximately 2:15 a.m., the driver was unable to provide a valid driver’s license and the passenger was intoxicated.  They were given the option to contact someone with a license to pick up the vehicle, but they declined.  Consequently, the driver, Jose Guzman, was arrested for Driving While Unlicensed and the passenger, Rigoberto Angel, was arrested for Public Intoxication.

At 9:03 a.m., cows were reported out on FM 69 in Quitman.  The owner was located.

At 10:14 a.m., cows were reported out, but not located on FM 2869, about 7 miles south of Winnsboro.

At 11:04 a.m., cows were reported out on FM 49 just east of 3265.  They were put back in the pasture.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call from a complainant reporting unauthorized charges on his credit card.  He believes that a previous girlfriend used his credit card number to make purchases on his card.  He does wish to pursue charges.

Deputies were dispatched to FM 2966 just south of CR 1813 in Yantis in reference to a vehicle in the roadway.  Upon arrival, deputies observed a man and woman sitting in the grass outside of the vehicle.  The man appeared agitated and began walking away from the deputies.  Due to his actions and for officer safety, he was ordered to place his hands behind his back.  Instead, he pulled away, reached in his pocket and threw something towards the wood line east of the road.  During the course of searching the vehicle and the grass, drugs and drug paraphernalia were discovered.  Tommy James Frazier was arrested for Resisting Arrest Search or Transport, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Tampering with or fabricating evidence.

At 7:22 p.m., cows were reported out on CR 2954 east of 1668 in Alba.

At 11:12 p.m., cows were reported out on 2088 west of 14.

February 6th

Deputies were dispatched to Village Circle in Yantis.  The complainant reported that an unknown person assaulted her and stole her purse when she arrived at the location.  She found her purse on the ground, but was missing several items out of her purse.  This case is forwarded to investigators for follow-up.

At 10:16 a.m., cows were reported out on FM 2869 at CR 4620 in Winnsboro.

At 11:19 a.m., cows were reported out, but not located on FM 312, 4 miles outside of Winnsboro.

At 12:29 p.m., cows were reported out, but not located on CR 1316 near FM 2225.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call from a citizen to make a report that an unknown person had added 2 new numbers to her phone account without her consent.  Verizon will handle this matter.

At 10:26 p.m., cows were reported out on FM 2869 on the Lake Hawkins Bridge.

February 7th

Deputies were dispatched to CR 3450 in Hawkins in regard to the possible death of a 57 year old female.  EMS was already on the scene and the individual was determined to be deceased.  An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.  The investigation is ongoing.
