Mixed in with spring football at Sulphur Springs High School is the annual 7 on 7 competition. Offensive Coordinator Matt Young says there are some windows of opportunity around spring football for players to practice for 7 on 7. The first varsity action for 7 on 7 teams is scheduled for next Tuesday, May 17 as Gilmer comes to town.
Coach Young expects 50 players on three teams including four or five quarterbacks to compete. Coach Young says 7 on 7 is good way to on work on throwing the catching due to the shear number of repetitions involved.
The varsity 7 on 7 teams will also compete at a Gilmer tournament on Saturday, May 21, at an East Texas Baptist University event on Saturday, May 28 and at a state qualifier at Rowlett on June 17.
