Cross Country Returns from Thursday Meet

The Sulphur Springs Cross-Country Team had a meet yesterday, October 2. They ran in Lindale against some of the more tougher teams in the area.

“The boys ended up getting first place,” cross-country coach Andy Holt said. ” We were led by Jacob Gatewood, who’s been in the top 10 about every rave that he ran this year. Our second guy was Nathan Mabry and then Will Fain, and Tanner Ramirez was in the hunt there as well. I thought they ran well.”

The boys cross-country had a successful meet, leaving them in high spirits. However, the girls were not so lucky.

“On the girls side, we didn’t have  great day,” coach Holt said. “For whatever reason we just didn’t run well. We ended up getting fourth, which is solid, but the way they’ve been running all year, I kind of expected first our second.”

The girls were led again by Myranda Pierce. Followed by Grace Grafton, then Taylor Robinson, Lauren Helm, and Estrella Resendiz. Coach Holt still has high hopes for the girls and wishes to see improvement later on.

“I know they’re going to bounce back from it, and I know we’re going to be fine,” coach Holt said. “We will just continue to work hard and get ourselves ready for the district meet on October 21.”

Madeline Massey started running again Monday. Coach Holt plans to have her running on Saturday and hopes she will be ready for district. On top of that, coach Holt is trying to schedule a quality meet within reasonable distance for next Saturday to get the team ready for October 21.
