JACK PHILLIPS, 9-YEAR-OLD WESTERN SWING FIDDLER FROM HOPKINS COUNTY, WON FIRST PLACE IN HIS AGE DIVISION AT TURKEY, TEXAS BOB WILLS DAY FIDDLING CONTEST. THERE WERE 15 CONTESTANTS IN THE 12-AND-UNDER AGE DIVISION. FIDDLE TUNES HE PLAYED IN COMPETITION WERE “SALLY GOODIN” AND “CORNFLOWER WALTZ”. The Local FFA Project Show SaturdayApril 25, 2015 at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center featured entries from Sulphur Springs High School students. The show and judging began at 10 a.m. Items are on display throughout the day. The Sulphur Springs Aviation Association and the Civil Air Patrol are hosting a Young Eagles Rally and giving students FREE airplane rides on Saturday, April 18 from 9:30 until noon at the Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport. Students must be age 8 through 17 and must have a parent or guardian present to sign permission forms. County Line School Historical Marker Dedication Ceremony

Marking the end of a two-year process, the County Line School Historical Marker Dedication Ceremony was held on April 12, 2015 on the site of the old school. The 65 persons present included some former County Line teachers and students. County Line School was established in 1897 as Rains County’s third district. Later, the original structure burned, and a two-story wooden schoolhouse was built on the property.
