Greater Emmanuel Baptist Church to Hold a Hamburger Fundraiser August 23rd
August 18, 2024 – Greater Emmanuel Baptist Church will hold a hamburger fundraiser Friday, August 23, 2024. The event will be held from 10:00am to 3:00pm. You can get a hamburger with, or without cheese, chips, a drink, and a cookie. Cost is $12 a meal. The fundraiser will be held at 711 Fuller Street, Sulphur Springs, Texas. CANHelp Puts on Quite the Back to School Fair Again
August 4, 2024 – The Hopkins County Community Action Network, or CANHelp, with help from many local organizations, churches, Universities, and others, put on a very successful back to School Fair this month. 400 backpacks were handed out to needy kids. There were vendors, games, prizes, a water slide, a bouncy house, popcorn, snow cones, community involvement, fellowship, and so much more. Check out the video below for some of the highlights.
Davis Street Baptist Church to Hold Back to School Event August 10th
July 28, 2024 – Davis Street Baptist Church invites the public to their Back to School Event August 10th, 2024. The event will begin at Davis Street Baptist Church at 9:00am. School supplies will be handed out to kids grade pre-K through 8th grade. You can expect family fun such as a bounce house, hot dogs and chips, and fellowship. Come early while supplies last!

Good News Christian Bookstore Celebrating 50 Years in Business With a Sale on July 27th
Gary and Gena Jordan, who have owned the Sulphur Springs Good News Christian Bookstore for the past 33 years, wish to celebrate and honor the shop’s 50th Anniversary, and the public is invited to share in this joyous occasion! The Jordans shared just a bit of the store’s history with KSST.
The happy couple shared that the, “Good News Christian Bookstore has been doing business in Sulphur Springs for 50 years and we will be celebrating on Saturday, July 27th! … The actual anniversary day was June 27th, but we are celebrating on July 27th. Since the Christian Bookstore is 50 years and 1 month old, God showed us to allow our customers on that day to choose any one item in the store and receive 50% off on that one item…. their choice. Also God said to tell them it is only one item because Jesus is the one and only way to heaven and they get to choose their item for the sale price just like each person has to make their own choice to receive Jesus as their Savior. … God bless you from Good News!” The Jordans are well loved members of the Sulphur Springs, Texas, Community. Not only is Gary a businessman, he also pastors at Calvary Baptist Church. Gary Jordan is also the brother of Larry Jordan, who brings KSST’s listeners the Christian program, “Wake Up America,” every Sunday morning.
Before Gary and Gena Jordan purchased the Good News Christian Bookstore in 1990, the store had been owned and sold by five different sets of owners over the previous 16 years. The Bookstore was originally opened for business for the very first time in 1974. The Bookstore has had different names and has been located in different areas of Sulphur Springs during it’s 50 years of business. Previous owners include Dr. Martin Miller, Bill Watts, Bobbie Gallagher, Dan and Susan Stanley, Dwayne and Nancy Davis, and Carroll and Dot Asbill. Through out the store’s 50 years it has faced the threat of permit closure due to fire, flooding, financial woes, and other factors, but the Good Lord has continued to Bless the Christian store and it’s various owners throughout it’s history. Today, The Good News Christian Bookstore continues strong, standing as a well liked local small business here in Sulphur Springs. It remains one of the few stores to offer a variety of Christian themed books and other merchandise between here and Dallas, Texas.
The Good News Christian Bookstore is now located at 1181 South Broadway Street. They have a large variety of items for sale, including Bibles, wind chimes, Christian books, crosses, pictures, greeting cards, jewelry, and so much more! The Anniversary sale event on Saturday, July 27th, will also include refreshments, with customers having the chance to chose one item to purchase from the store at 50% off! The Good News Christian Bookstore’s hours are Monday through Saturday, 10:00am to 6:00pm, and closed on Sundays.

On this episode of KSST’s A Second Cup Of Coffee With John Mark Dempsey, John Mark sat down with new Christian author Tracy Kelley. Tracy shared her story and her relationship with God. She discussed with John Mark her inspiration for her first book, Living Loved: Learning to Live in the Fullness of God’s Love. Her book is available for preorder from some sellers and is due out in a couple of weeks. John Mark and Tracy Kelley go on to talk about her upcoming book signing event, being held at Sulphur Springs’s Deep Routes Coffee Shop, on August 3, 2024. Two Major Events to be Held at the Old Saltillo Cemetery
July 12, 2024 – Two major events are held each year at the Old Saltillo Cemetery. On July 21st, 2024, the Annual Business Meeting/Memorial Day will be held. The activities will begin at 10:30am that Sunday, in the Old Saltillo United Methodist Church, located at 664 County Road 3357, Saltillo, Texas, 75478.
Congregational singing led by Steve Conley will start things off. A Business meeting will follow. Next, there will be a Memorial Program. The Program this year will be a “Musical Medley” presented by Larry Neal and his daughter, Tracie Neal Smith. Following the program, lunch will be served in the Kirby Memorial Center. Attendees are asked to bring some of your favorite dishes. Lunch will be served in a buffet manner which will include iced drinks and coffee. Seating in the serving area is limited, so feel free to bring lawn chairs, card tables, etc.
Then, on December 14, 2024, The Old Saltillo Cemetery will host the Annual Wreaths Across America program, beginning at 11:00am, in the Old Saltillo United Methodist Church. Following a very meaningful program, participants will go across the road and place a wreath at each veteran’s burial site.
Judge Brad Cummings will deliver the day’s keynote address. Kathy Whitten Patterson and Lucas Dennis will honor Old Saltillo Cemetery Veterans by calling each of their names aloud. The program will conclude with Taps played.
Wreaths are $17 each or opt for the “3 for 2” by purchasing two wreaths ($34) and receive a third wreath for free. On line deadline is October 31, 2024. Sulphur Springs First United Methodist Church to Hold Vacation Bible School June 3rd Through 6th
May 21, 2024 – Sulphur Springs First United Methodist Church has an exciting opportunity for parents to send their Pre-K through 3rd grade students to a totally free Vacation Bible School, June 3-6.
It’s four days of developing skills in science, art and music while discovering who they are as children of God.
Evening Chapel Church Anniversary and Pastor Appreciation, 2024
May 20, 2024 – The 151st Evening Chapel Church Anniversary and Pastor Appreciation event will start at 3pm Sunday May 26, 2024.
