November 19, 2025 – COMMUNITY PARTNER: The Knights of Columbus
A partner with Dinner Bell since 2017, the Knights of Columbus have smoked our Thanksgiving meal turkeys since 2018. The Knights of Columbus was organized in Connecticut in 1882 to serve their church, community, and family with virtue.
Fraternity and patriotism were added to the Knights founding principles of charity and unity in 1885 and 1900 respectively. In 1951 the Knights initiated the adoption of the phrase “under God” as an addition to the Pledge of Allegiance of the United States of America. This adoption occurred in 1954. The Knights advocate for Catholic causes and provide a wide range of philanthropic and support services to Catholic institutions worldwide.
The Knights were organized locally at St. James Catholic Church in 1987. Besides supporting local activities at St. James Cath olic Church, it presently helps Meal-A-Day, Dinner Bell and Wreaths Across America. Our gratitude is extended to the Knights of Columbus for supporting the Dinner Bell Feeding Ministry for an extended period of time.
We plan to continue inside dining every Wednesday with the exception of the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.

November 4, 2025 – COMMUNITY PARTNER: Alliance Bank
The doors to the kitchen of the First United Methodist Church will reopen at 11:00 a.m., for meal service beginning at 11:30 a.m. Doors will close at 12:45 p.m.
Alliance Bank was chartered as Sulphur Springs State Bank on June 13, 1927, by the two largest shareholders of First State Bank which had failed. Located at the Southwest corner of Main and Gilmer Streets, the bank was profitable that first year and has remained profitable ever since. A fire at the original location in 1934 facilitated the move to the North side of the Sulphur Springs square where the bank has maintained a permanent presence.
Cotton Farmers became dairymen as attractive loans by the bank enabled them to change agricultural careers.
Sulphur Springs State Bank came to Hunt county in July 1990 and from there began moving east , west and into the metroplex. Those movements necessitated a name change to Alliance Bank in October 1996.
The bank purchased Galyean Insurance Agency and opened a brokerage company—Alliance Financial Services—to meet the business and personal needs of its customers at home or with their businesses.
“The best is ALL we do” is the motto that undergirds the decisions and actions of a banking institution that will soon celebrate one hundred years of service in Sulphur Springs and its vicinity.
We are blessed to have the Ministerial Alliance as Greeters at Dinner Bell. We plan to continue fellowship and dining inside every Wednesday with the exception of the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. Parking is available at the church parking lots.

Christus Health can trace its history to 1866 with the founding of St. Mary’s Hospital in Galveston, Texas, by the Sisters of Charity. In 2016 Christus merged with Trinity Mother Frances hospital and Clinics (itself a product of a merger of two Catholic-based systems) in Tyler, Texas.

In 1922 George J. Mecherle, a retired farmer, created a mutual automobile insurance company in Bloomington, Illinois. By 1929 the company expanded beyond car insurance to life insurance. By 1935 home and property was offered. In 1971 Barry Manilow penned the jingle “Like a Good Neighbor, State Farm is there” that defines the company’s brand identify.
Today it is a diversified financial services company offering not only property and casualty insurance but also life and health insurance, annuities, and mutual funds. Being a mutual company it is owned by its policy holders.
