First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs Announces Opportunities for Local Youth
September 2, 2025 – First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs, Texas, is announcing opportunities for local youth to engage in fellowship and give back to the community. The Youth Group, Club 345, Cross Fire Kids, designed for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, will meet select Sundays at 2:00pm. The next meeting is September 21st, 2025.
Also, the Cross Fire Kids of First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will help out in the community with their project, “Mission Possible: kids” … These projects will give kids experience with hands-on community-based projects that expose children to various needs. This group meets select Sundays at 2:00pm. The next opportunity is September 14th, 2025.


The Hopkins County African American Leadership Conference was Held August 23rd
August 26, 2025 – The Hopkins County African American Leadership Conference was held Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, at East Caney Missionary Baptist Church. Deacon Ricky Godbolt was the Master of Ceremony. This conference included such exciting activities as a “Welcome” by Reverend Jason Lindley, the song, “One More Sunny Day” performed by Sister Jossie Jimmerson, a recital of “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou, spoken by Sister Tammy Duffey, and so much more! The special guest speaker was former Alumni Director of East Texas A&M University, Mr. Derylle Peace. Many Hopkins County residents were honored at this conference. First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs Offers Small Group Studies Opportunities And More
August 21, 2025 – First United Methodist Church, located at 301 Church Street, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, offers Small Group Studies opportunities, and more, to the community. “Young Adult Bible Study” is offered every second Sunday of the Month beginning September 7, 2025. The “Adam Hamilton Small Group Study” will be offered Mondays at 6:00pm and Tuesdays at 2:00pm, beginning September 8, 2025. The “Unshakable Hope” group will meet Wednesdays starting September 10th, 2025. A Women’s Bible Study group will meet Thursdays, at 10:00am, beginning September 11, 2025. And, a grief support group will be offered every Tuesday, starting September 9, 2025.

August 21, 2025 – Children’s Church and Praise at First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will resume September 3, 2025. “Wonderful Wednesdays” will be held 6:00pm to 7:00pm, and “Kids Praise” will be held 7:00 to 7:15pm. Hopkins County United Way Excess Allocation Check Distribution with the 2023-2024 Campaign
July 21, 2025 – This is KSST’s coverage of the Hopkins County United Way 2023-2024 Campaign excess allocation check distribution. Hopkins County United Way received contributions exceeding original allocations for the 2023-2024 Campaign, Co-Chaired by KK McKenzie and Jessica McInnis. Hopkins County United Way Board Members are pleased to distribute the additional donations to non-profit organizations that serve people in Hopkins County. Each organization received a portion of the excess. This event was held at the Hopkins County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office in Sulphur Springs, Texas, on Thursday, July 17th, 2025. New Beginnings Healing and Deliverance Ministries will Present two Events July 26th and 27th
July 21, 2025 – New Beginnings Healing and Deliverance Ministries of Sulphur Springs, Texas, announces two events with one taking place July 26th, 2025, and the other being held July 27th, 2025. Ascension Technologies will present the program Saturday, July 26, beginning at 6:30pm. This program will be held at 717 East Jefferson Street, in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Greater Emmanuel Baptist Church to Hold Fundraising Concert July 26th
July 21, 2025 – Greater Emmanuel Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will hold a Building Fund Musical Event Saturday, July 26, 2025. The concert will take place at the Cypress Baptist Center in Sulphur Springs. The musical event will begin at 4:00pm. Reverend D. K. Young, Pastor. Demetra Robinson, Associate Minister.

Old Saltillo Cemetery Annual Meeting and Memorial Service to be Held July 20th
July 10, 2025 -OLD SALTILLO CEMETERY ANNUAL MEETING/MEMORIAL SERVICE
SUNDAY, JULY 20, 2025 – 10:30 A.M.
Members of the Board of Directors of the Old Saltillo Cemetery Association have been making plans for the 2025 Memorial Day Program/Annual Business Meeting. As tradition, the program will be held on the third Sunday, July 20th from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the beautifully renovated and air-conditioned Old Saltillo United Methodist Church, located on 664 CR 3357, directly across the road from the cemetery. The program will begin with congregational singing let by Steve Conley and accompanied by pianists, Lynda Davidson. Rev. Dan Hoke will give the invocation. A patriotic recognition of the veterans will be led by Lucas Dennis with all of the youth in attendance assisting.
Next, greetings will be made by Dr. Trapper Pace. After that, the Annual Business Meeting will be held which consists of a report on the activities taken and work performed for the care of the cemetery during the past year, a financial report, and the election of three members for three-year terms to the Board of Directors.
Each year, a special memorial tribute to those interred in the Old Saltillo Cemetery in the preceding twelve months is conducted. Special music by will be presented by Steve Conley and Lynda Davidson. This year, Kelli McAfee Traver assisted by Ginny Agee Doyle will make the presentation to recognize the loved ones that have been interred in the Old Saltillo Cemetery this past year. Members of the family of each person buried in the cemetery during this past year are encouraged to attend and participate in the honoring of their loved ones.
An outstanding program has been planned. The speaker this year is Will Ramsay, Hopkins County District Attorney.
After the benediction given by Constance McGill, lunch will be served in the air-conditioned Kirby Memorial Center. Everyone is asked to bring the usual full meal with ample portions to be shared with others. The food will be arranged in buffet style with cups, plates, napkins, eating utensils, and water and iced tea being furnished. Seating will be available inside Kirby Memorial Center but for those who still prefer Memorial Day lunch outdoors, space is available under the shade of the church’s large oak trees. Please bring lawn chairs and card tables so that you can enjoy the lunch and fellowship after the service.
Time will be provided at lunch and later during the afternoon for visiting – renewing old acquaintances and making new friends. Please make plans to attend the service to be held on the Third Sunday in July.
